(Rook and Ronin Spinoff)
Publication date: February 17th 2014

Rating: 4.5 Bookworms

Synopsis:
Spencer Shrike is a plotter. Known for his ingenious, albeit illegal, plans that keeps the Team running efficiently and out of jail, he carries this same love of order into his personal life. He’s kept his long-time main squeeze on the sidelines for years as he builds the Shrike Bikes empire.

Veronica Vaughn is an explosion ready to happen. Ronnie lives in the here and now. She lives for today. She knows what she wants, and she wants it now. And right now Ron the Bomb Vaughn wants Spencer shrike to leave her the hell alone. She’s done playing his game. She’s done waiting around. She’s moving forward with her own plots, plans, and dreams and she’s moving forward tonight. Ron the Bomb is finally—finally—gonna get some satisfaction.

Too bad Spencer Shrike is standing in her way.

All three guys from the Rook & Ronin series have their own distinct personalities, as well as roles on their team. Ronin is smooth and charming...cool under pressure. Ford has his many peculiarities and his mad skills with a computer. Spencer Shrike has always been more 'what you see is what you get' in my opinion. He's brash and blunt. He's the muscle. And I wouldn't have him any other way. In BOMB though, I was able to see past his in your face-ness to a tiny glimpse of the man underneath.

Spencer first saw Veronica Vaughn outside the campus bookstore. She was yelling at a guy. It was love/lust at first sight for Spencer. It was a day that changed Spencer's life. The day they went on their first date, his world shifted yet again. This day though - the one we're privy to in BOMB, may have repercussions for a long, long time.

I loved being witness to the beginnings of their romance. I also appreciated getting an inkling about why they are where they currently are. Despite Spencer being a guy who says it like it is, he's a bit more complex. And he's as loyal as they come.

BOMB was an excellent precursor to GUNS, which I'm now dying to read. It's going to be an epic culmination of this entire series. I adore Spencer and Ronnie and all the characters that inhabit this world. And I'm grateful to have had this little look at a day in Spencer's life.

  8. I haven't read the Rook and Ronin series, but I've read so many reviews that I already feel close to the characters. I love that there's this spinoff series as well. Spencer and Veronica seem like a very interesting couple to follow for sure. Fantastic review! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  12. Oh I want to read this series. It sounds like Huss knows how to write her characters that each are different from others, which is always a plus in a series and it's spin-offs.
