**Blog Tour ~ The Experiment ~ Cindy Bennett, Jeffrey Moore, & Sherry Gammon**

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Experiment, an new YA novel by Cindy Bennett, Sherry Gammon, and Jeffery Moore. My stop includes all the important details about The Experiment and a guest post.

*******

Time is running out for the Collaborative's oppressive rule of the remote world Senca One. The government attempts to suppress the escalating riots, even while seeking to further their experiments. When their parents are taken, triplets Juliet, Cilla, and Emiah Tripp set out to locate them, and soon discover they are at the center of a hunt to capture them.

Evading the Collaborative across Senca One’s harsh terrain, they’re confronted with the trials of survival. They also discover something that changes the very core of their reality: they’re morphs. Struggling to adapt to the strange new ability, they question what they really are . . . and why. Are the rumors of experiments done on children true? Did their scientist parents have anything to do with it?

Their quest brings them to the capitol city of Brighton, which is on the verge of revolt. While searching for information about their parents, the Tripps align themselves with the very people fueling the rebellion. They unwittingly spark the revolution they want no part of and discover something more dangerous than they suspected.

Collaborating on a Novel
by Cindy Bennett

I’d kind of always wondered how hard it would be to write a book with another author, with two different writing styles and sets of ideas to haggle over. When I co-wrote Whispers of Razari with Jeffery Moore, I found the process much easier than expected. But writing a book with two other authors hadn’t even occurred to me. It would have to be that much harder adding a third author into the mix, right?

It was that much better as it turns out. Not only was it great having two talented authors to bounce ideas off of, there wasn’t much of a chance for writer’s block. We were all equally invested in the story, so when writer’s block hit, a simple “help” resulted in enough ideas to get our creativity flowing. To me, the best part was waiting to get a chapter written by one of the others, excited to see where they’d taken the story and what the characters were doing.

Our process for writing was simple and complicated. Jeff took the reins in writing an outline. We went back and forth a little until we had it set. Then Jeff wrote the first chapter (the prologue was actually the last thing written) from his character Emiah’s POV. He sent that to us and Sherry and I adjusted dialogue or actions for our specific characters. Once we were happy with it, I wrote the next chapter from my character Cilla’s POV and sent it to them for the same. Sherry wrote the third as Juliet, and we repeated this process until we finished. There were a few times one of us took the story in a new direction and Jeff would then rewrite the outline.

As we neared the end of the book, we realized that some of the ways we’d veered the story required reworking the ending. We discussed it back and forth, and then Jeff wrote a chapter with a twist that completely took Sherry and me by surprise, but we loved it. That then required us to go back and tweak some things in the story to fit with that specific twist (you’ll have to read the book to find out what it is).

I highly recommend if you’re a writer and you get the chance to co-write a book with other authors you jump at the chance. It’s quite the experience, and in the end you wind up with a pretty amazing book that’s even entertaining for you to read as one of the authors.

Cindy Bennett is the YA author of several books, including Geek Girl, Rapunzel Untangled, Enchanted Fairytales, and Heart on a Chain. She lives in Utah and has six kids (two of which are daughters in-law). She loves gooey cookies, dark chocolate, and cheese popcorn. She hates housework and cooking, and has no plans to become a domestic goddess. She occasionally co-hosts a geek podcast with her son, called Geek Revolution Radio. Her favorite pastime is riding her Harley.

Jeffery Moore was born in Germany. As a military brat, much of his childhood was spent abroad, growing up in Germany on military installations. He subsequently enlisted in the military and served for ten years as an army pilot. While in the military, he lived in Italy and South Korea and deployed to many European countries. He has traveled to Australia, Japan, Singapore and most European countries. His experiences and contact with many different cultures helps form some of the elements in his stories. He currently works for a global IT company and lives in Massachusetts.

Unlovable was Gammon's debut novel and quickly rose to many top seller lists on Amazon. She is pleased to announce that Unlovable is currently being made into a movie. She has added two more novels to her body of work. Not so Easy, book one of the Souls in Peril series, is the poignant story of Max Sanchez who is on a journey to help the struggling JD Miller survive high school, and Pete & Tink, a fun, light-hearted novella of a manga-loving geek and a five-and-a-half inch fairy. Gammon and her husband, along with their children and a couple of crazy dogs, call Upstate New York home. It is where she spends her nights writing instead of sleeping.

  5. The Experiment sounds pretty cool, and I really like that there are three authors who wrote the story together! Excellent for different points of views, I'm sure.

I hope you're doing well, here all is well, the reason I've been MIA this week is because I locked myself out of my blog... and I had to go somewhere I could have another IP address to get back in and unlock myself *grins* That helped me finish four books so far this week, though... instead of running all over the internet having fun with my friends ;)

Have a great weekend, Brandee! *hugs*

I'm sorry(?) you were locked out of your computer...finishing 4 books is definitely the upside to that! ;) Perhaps I should lock myself out of mine! LOL Things here are dandy! I hope your weekend is wonderful...see you tomorrow! *hugs*

  6. This is so cool! When I read the Sazi books by the now named Cat Adams team I wondered how they collaborated so well to create such awesome books. Reading this is inspiring and something to add to my dreamer post. I love that they surprised each other. I also love quest stories and this one sounds like a good one. What a fun post, Brandee!
