Finding It (Losing It, #3)
Finding It by Cora Carmack
Losing It #3
Release Date: October 15, 2013
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Source: Purchased Paperback at a local signing
Rating: 4.5 Bookworms
Challenges: #2018HW, #TravelingtotheTerminus
Goodreads

Synopsis
Sometimes you have to lost yourself to find where you truly belong...

Most girls would kill to spend months traveling around Europe after college graduation with no responsibility, no parents, and no-limit credit cards. Kelsey Summers is no exception. She's having the time of her life...or that's what she keeps telling herself.

It's a lonely business trying to find out who you are, especially when you're afraid you won't like what you discover. No amount of drinking or dancing can chase away Kelsey's loneliness, but maybe Jackson Hunt can. After a few chance meetings, he convinces her to take a journey of adventure instead of alcohol. With each new city and experience, Kelsey's mind becomes a little clearer and her heart a little less hers. Jackson helps her unravel her own dreams and desires. But the more she learns about herself, the more Kelsey realizes how little she knows about Jackson.

It's been a little while since I read Faking It and a long while since I read Losing It and I know that I adored those stories and characters but here's the thing: Finding It resonated so deeply and I fell so hard for both Kelsey and Jackson that their story is my favorite.

It might be the place I'm in with life - or rather the place(s) where my kids are - and honestly it probably is that reason - but CCarmack nailed so completely what it feels like to wonder at what your purpose is and to stumble about in an attempt to figure it out. That's always been my favorite element of New Adult as a genre and CCarmack conveys it so well. Now that I have children experiencing the same things, getting ready to embark on a similar journey, and/or navigate these same waters, Kelsey and Jackson and their situations just spoke to me.

Kelsey looks like she's having one last hurrah before starting her life post-graduation. She's traveling Europe, partying, and living life. But Kelsey is actually trying to keep memories and emotions at bay by living in the moment and drowning things in alcohol...oh and by spending daddy's money. At first, I had trouble sympathizing with her poor, little rich girl persona. It didn't take long to see that it was all an act and Kelsey is quite an actress. At times it seemed as though she didn't really know herself. Underneath that party girl facade was a damaged young woman who'd been dealing with quite a lot for quite a long time but also a young woman who was capable and passionate and worthy of love.

Jackson started out as a snarky, handsome enigma. I could tell he was damaged as well and that he had a painful story but it was a story he wasn't ready to share. He was a compassionate young man who seemed to see right through Kelsey's mask to the heart of her. Even better, he saw ll the parts of her worthy of his attention, care, and love.

What I enjoyed most was how Jackson took it upon himself to help Kelsey find what she was really looking for by giving her what she thought she was looking for. And in the course of helping Kelsey, he learned a few things himself as well as finding exactly what he was looking for.

Finding It was captivating, powerful, and emotionally charged as well as funny, sweet, and sexy. Thank goodness I have more CCarmack on my shelf!

Faking It (Losing It, #2)Faking It by Cora Carmack

Release Date: June 4, 2013
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Source: I received an ARC copy at RT2013
Rating: 4.5 Bookworms
Challenges: #COYER, #ShelfLove
Goodreads

Synopsis
Mackenzie "Max" Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they're expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he's kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee ship with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they're forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

It's been awhile since I read Losing It but I know I enjoyed it. Faking It, though... I FLOVED it!!

So I can't way exactly why - if it's that I felt the story was meatier or I I appreciated the angst...or it it's just been so long since I read Losing It that I don't remember being as moved by it. Whatever it is, I freaking adored Max and Cade!! They were perfect together, even if it took them awhile to figure it out. Their banter was hilarious and their stories, separately, were engaging. Together they simply were magic!

Cade, well, I knew why he was the way he was. I may have gotten more background on him but I felt like I understood him. I hurt for him over this falling out with Bliss (Losing It) but I held out hope that he'd find the girl that'd really trip his trigger. I mean, he's funny, smart, talented, and HOT! Some girl has to fall for that, right??

When he first sees Max I knew it as all over for him. He was captivated. I was captivated. Max is gorgeous and attention-grabbing with her retro look and tattoos. When she speaks to Cade? Her feisty-ness and attitude won over both Cade and me. And she appealed to Cade even more since she needed help. But it was more than that. Watching them both work at holding their walls steady despite the cracks and crumbling that their meeting caused was entertaining to say the least. They both have baggage to work through though and it was difficult to witness it even if I was anxious to know all the details. It was worth the tension and tears.

They only complaint I have is that I thought part of the resolution with Max's family was too easy. Otherwise, Faking It was outstanding.

Review ~ All Line Up ~ Cora Carmack

All Lined Up (Rusk University, #1)All Lined Up by Cora Carmack
Rusk University #1
Release Date: May 13, 2014
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Source: Purchased paperback
Rating: 4 Bookworms
Challenges: #ShelfLove, #TakeControlTBR
Goodreads

Synopsis
In Texas, two things are cherished above all else--football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn't bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball...as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.

Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

Being a native, Carmack nailed the religion that is football in Texas! And she did it via relatable, loveable, and engaging characters.

Dallas, "As in the Cowboys. Unfortunately.", is a college freshman who had hopes of escaping her football coach of a dad only to have those hopes dashed when he was offered the head coaching position at Rusk University. Having been raised solely by her emotionally distant dad, who was always busy with his team, left Dallas a bit emotion-phobic. She is a bit awkward (Cora's signature character type) and has no filter. I adored it when she opened her mouth and honesty flowed out. This happened often with Carson. However, this rarely happened when talking with her dad.

I loved Carson from the start. He's just a good guy. He's dedicated, hard-working, and fun. But he's on a mission and doesn't need to be distracted from the goal he's been aiming for forever. And Dallas is definitely a distraction...was from the first time she opened her mouth...and screamed! It was sweet to see him embarrassed to ask for help in his studies as well as see him be protective of Dallas when it came to the football jerks - er, jocks. It was exciting to see things work out in a way that made him happy - something he worked so hard to achieve. He did his best to protect Dallas' heart.

What I liked most about All Lined Up was the character growth Dallas undergoes. Yes, Carson played a part as sort of the impetus but mostly Dallas did some letting go of the past, decided what she needed to do and what she was willing to do to acieve her dreams and still maintain a good relationship with her dad.

I enjoyed this story so much. I even liked meeting the secondary characters, some of whom I look forward to getting to know better in the next books. I hope to see more of Coach Cole, too.

I'm so happy I finally dusted off All Lined Up. I won't wait as long to read the next Rusk novel.

That's What HE Said #58 ~ Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts #39

That's What He Said is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely ladies @Chapter Break. Here's the deal: every Thursday, post a line from your book boyfriend to his heroine. Keep in mind, these are direct quotes from dialog in the books. The quote doesn't have to be romantic - just something our hunky hero said to his lucky lady. Be sure to link up over at Chapter Break as well.

My pick this week for That's What He Said is from:

All Lined Up by Cora Carmack

***

"You asked me once what fixes me the way dance fixes you. I'm still not sure I've found that thing that pulls me together, but I've found who pulls me together. You're the only thing that makes me feel better when I'm tired or frustrated. You're the only thing that quiets all my worries and doubts and fears. You're it for me. So run if you'd like, but I'll follow. You can try to hold me at arm's length, but I'll never stop trying to pull you close. Be scared if you must, but you're not going to lose me..."

*~*~*~*~*~*

Okay, I love this scene for a few reasons...first, Tucker's is based on a barbecue restaurant that I used to eat at when traveling between Lubbock and my grandparents. Yummy food and good memories. Second, even though it doesn't list much food here, IT'S BARBECUE! (I *am* Texan) And last, Dallas' dad used food as a kind of ice breaker here - he wanted to really talk to Dallas and this was his way of easing into the conversation. :D

"You hungry?" he asks. "I brought Tucker's home."
...
When he says he brought Tucker's...he means he brought all of Tucker's I swear there's enough food to feed the Weasley family for only the two of us.
"I wasn't sure what you wanted, so I just got a few of your favorites. Figure we can warm up whatever we don't eat later."
"Thanks, Dad."
He nods, and starts piling various barbecued and fried meats onto his plate. I'm not all that hungry, but I do the same because I know he's trying.
