EXCERPT:

SPENCER

I ease out of the room quietly and take the baby downstairs. The house is big and the kitchen is far, but I can hear the bustle of kids and dogs before I even make it downstairs. When I walk in, it’s a madhouse. I love this fucking madhouse. My girls are all laughing and talking a mile a minute. Belle is stuffing her face with pancakes, Jasmine and Ariel are clinking their OJ glasses together like they are having a secret toast, and Rory is…

I squint my eyes at Rory. She’s talking to Five, but that’s not what makes me squint my eyes. She’s wearing a Shrike Trikes t-shirt and sweat pants, but it’s the way… it’s the shape of her…

“Daddy,” Rory squeals, getting up from her stool at the breakfast bar and coming towards me. “Five wants to know—”

“Absolutely not.”

She stops short. “What?” Her smile falters.

Cindy smacks her little fist into my eyeball, and I have to take a deep breath. “I’m sorry, what were you going to ask?” I eye Five suspiciously. I know he’s always liked her, but he’s so weird. Like Ford, just weird. Always wearing those suits. Always on that computer. And he’s been in and out of different college programs since he was ten or eleven. He’s gone a lot and that’s the way I like it.

But today he looks… different. Different in the same way that Rory looks different in her innocent nightclothes. He almost looks normal in his flannel pajama pants and Shrike t-shirt. Add in the fact that his normally perfectly coiffed hair is messed up a little like he just rolled out of bed, and I get flushed with anger.

In fact, Rory’s long blonde hair is all messed up too. Flowing over her shoulders like an unruly waterfall. And Five is looking at her the way I look at the Bomb.

“But Daddy,” Rory pleads. “I need to go shopping.”

“Shopping?” I ask, ratcheting down my suspicions and getting a hold of my paranoia as the seconds tick off.

“Yeah, we don’t want to ski today. We want to go shopping in the Village.”

Shopping. I mull it over in my head. Lots of people there. Crowds of people, actually.

Not private, in other words. “Maybe,” I say. “But I’m pretty sure Ford is counting on you to help him, Five.”

“Mr. Shrike,” Five starts. “I’ve already cleared it with my father. Kate’s helping him today. Right, Kate?” He looks over at his sister and there’s… there’s some kind of secret look going on between the two of them.

“Yup,” Kate says. She is as normal as Five is strange. And she’s been Ford’s little sidekick since day one. But she’s smarter than people give her credit for. I think she secretly likes it that way. Like being underestimated is the best gift she ever got out of being Ford’s adopted daughter. “Ford and I are skiing a double black once the kids are finished.”

“Well,” I say, eyeing my brood. Rory needs a chaperone. Belle, Jas and Ariel won’t go shopping. They love Ford too much to skip out on a whole day with him on the slopes. And there’s no chance in hell that Rook and Ronin will have time to shop today. Sparrow has ballet rehearsal before The Nutcracker tonight. “Oliver,” I say,
smiling. “Ollie, my boy. You don’t want to ski today, do you? You hate skiing.” He does too, he can’t ski worth a shit. “Will you go with Rory and finds something extra-special pretty for Mommy today? She’s tired and needs a pick-me-up present before Santa comes.”

“Yay!” Oliver says. “Yes, yes, yes! I want to go shopping with Five. He’s the best, Daddy.”

I roll my eyes. “OK, good. You can go, Princess, but…” I look at Five. “But…”

“But what, Daddy?” Rory asks.

But what am I going to say to Five? You touch my girl, I’ll break your fingers? I’ll grab that shotgun I’m hiding under my bed and—“Just be home in time for dinner. Your mom is making something special tonight.”

An early Christmas present...what a treat! Reading Happily Ever After, slipping back into Rook & Ronin and company's world, was like wrapping up in a warm blanket and sipping on some hot chocolate - comfortable.

Happily Ever After shows us what life is like for these characters now that the most dangerous thing they do is a terrain park on skis and their biggest worry is that the kids are growing up too quickly. I was absolutely delighted with this glimpse into their world and how they spend Christmas Eve together.

All the situations each of these couples are experiencing felt authentic and real and really resonated deeply in my. I had tears in my eyes on more than one occasion as I shared in Rook & Ronin's worry over the future for their kids, Ford & Ash's struggle over whether or not to expand their family, and Spencer and Ronnie's concern over the princess dating.

Kids do grow up way to fast and life moves at light speed the older we get. I took great pleasure in seeing some of my favorite characters going through the same things I've gone through or am currently experiencing. And the multiple POVs just added to the wonder - especially Five's. To see life finally got to normal for these couples and their families - well, it left me feeling warm and fuzzy!

If you've read the Rook & Ronin series, this is a must read!

He shrugged out of his jacket as I perched on the sofa to pour us our wine. It was a wonder I didn’t spill it everywhere. I couldn’t wrench my gaze away from his body if I tried. Those broad shoulders… that solid chest…the promise of that bulge in those slim-fitting pants…and for the next couple of hours or so it was all mine, bought and paid for.

My pulse raced as he sat next to me, so close that I became intoxicated on the spicy, woodsy scent of his cologne. I was sure he could see my hand tremble when I handed him his glass.

Those sultry eyes rendered me mute as he stared at me. Finally he raised his glass. “To old friends and new beginnings,” he said in a voice so soft, it felt like an actual caress.

I nodded as I clinked our glasses together. I couldn’t tear my eyes from his supple mouth as he drank. Again, I drained another glass. I reached for the bottle, but Devlin leaned forward to grab my hand. “You’re not going to need that,” he murmured in a low voice that sent a shock wave to my core.

“I’m–I’m not?” I stammered.

He shook his head. My head was floating as high as a cloud as he took the glass from my hand and set it on the coffee table in front of me. He eased back against the couch, capturing my face with his hand. His thumb brushed rhythmically over my cheek as he stared down into my face. “I think I know what you want, Coralie. I definitely know what you need. The question is… do you trust me to give it to you?”

My eyes widened as I stared up at him. Slowly I nodded. I stared at his mouth as it descended towards mine, closing over my lips finally in a soft, sensual kiss. My insides went up just like kindling as his broad tongue parted my lips and darted inside. He tasted like champagne. It only made me feel drunker.

And I blame the alcohol for the wanton way I threw my arms around his neck and kissed this enticing stranger back. I mean, I was only human for crying out loud. This man looked like he just stepped off the cover of a magazine, and here he was kissing me. He was kissing me. Me! His lips on mine, his hands on my body, his tongue penetrating my mouth with all the passion I’d only read about in romance novels. His fingers tangled in my hair as he deeply explored my mouth with that skilled tongue, and I felt my whole body come to life as a response.

I wanted more, and I was in the very unique position to take it, no questions asked.

He held me close, with one broad hand sliding up my side to cup the full curve of my breast. I gasped into his mouth as he thumbed my nipple through the fabric. He pulled away to stare down into my face. “You spent all your life taking care of everyone else, but no one has taken care of you, have they?”

I couldn’t even speak. I just shook my head.

“I’m going to change that,” he promised. “I’m going to change everything.”

**This book is part of a series. Possible spoilers below. Start the journey with Dev and Coralie in MASTERS FOR HIRE, available now!**

They were two completely different people from two completely different worlds. Within two weeks they were married, for better or worse.

Their whirlwind romance did nothing to prepare Devlin and Coralie Masters for what awaited them back at home. Powerful forces outside of their marriage work nonstop to tear them asunder. There is much more to fear than her family learning the truth of how and why they met.

Ultimately his powerful seductive hold over her cannot protect her from these troubling new developments. One thing becomes crystal clear. They may be married, but they’re still strangers.
They love each other. They want each other. They can’t stay away from each other.

But will it be enough?

Hold onto your seats, folks. It’s about to get complicated.

The Groupie Saga titillated you. The Fullerton Family Saga broke your heart. Now, Book Two of the Masters Saga, MASTERS FOR LIFE, turns up all the Ginger Voight angst, drama and sex you’ve grown to love all the way up to eleven. And it’s COMING OCTOBER 30, 2015!
Intended for readers 18+ for graphic sexual content.

Ginger Voight is a screenwriter and bestselling author with over twenty published titles in fiction and nonfiction. She covers everything from travel to politics in nonfiction, as well as romance, paranormal, and dark, “ripped from the headlines” topics like Dirty Little Secrets.
Ginger discovered her love for writing in sixth grade, courtesy of a Halloween assignment. From then on, writing became a place of solace, reflection, and security. This was never more true than when she found herself homeless in L.A. at the age of nineteen. There, she wrote her first novel, longhand on notebook paper, while living out of her car.
In 1995, after she lost her nine-day-old son, she worked through her grief by writing the story that would eventually become The Fullerton Family Saga.
In 2011, she embarked on a new journey–to publish romance novels starring heroines who look more like the average American woman. These “Rubenesque” romances have developed a following thanks to her bestselling Groupie series. Other titles, such as the highly-rated New Adult series, Fierce, tap into the “reality-TV” preoccupation in American entertainment, which gives her contemporary stories a current, pop culture edge.
Known for writing gut-twisting angst, Ginger isn’t afraid to push the envelope with characters who are perfectly imperfect. Whether rich, poor, sweet, selfish, gay, straight, plus-size or svelte, her characters are beautifully flawed and three-dimensional. They populate her lavish fictional landscapes and teach us more about the real world in which we live simply through their interactions with each other. Ginger’s goal with every book is to give the reader a little bit more than they were expecting, told through stories they’ll never forget.

Release Day Review ~ Sexy ~ JA Huss

Happy Release Day, JA Huss!!
Sexy releases today!

SexySexy by JA Huss
Release Date: September 9, 2015
Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance
Source: I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review
Rating: 4.5 Bookworms

Synopsis
Imagine the man of your dreams.

The blue eyes. The unruly blonde hair. The perfect abs. How strong his muscular thighs feel as you dig your fingernails into the denim of his jeans.
Now imagine looking up to meet his gaze as he guides you towards his belt. Offers you a new life, a new destiny, a whole new world as he teaches you how to make him moan. Coaches you in the art of being sexy.

Would you say no? Could you say no?

Fletcher Novak is that perfect man and he just made Tiffy Preston the offer of a lifetime. And all she has to do is...everything he tells her.

First things first...if you tend to shy away from Huss because of her darker storylines, know that Sexy is something altogether and not at all dark. So pick it up, y'all!

Okay...

Having read a few (read: all) of Huss' books, I've come to expect a few things from her:

  • I'm always going to get a fresh story
  • I'm always going to get a tightly woven story with a strong plot, and compelling characters
  • Things are never going to be as they appear on the surface
  • I typically learn something about human nature
Sexy delivered on all points. It is definitely unlike anything I've read before. I was introduced to characters I quickly became invested in as well as a plot that kept me riveted. And as Huss started the revelations, I learned something about judging a book by it's cover, so to speak.

Fletcher Novak - yeah, I didn't much care for him upon first meeting him. I, like Tiffy, felt he was an arrogant player. But as I got to know him, I began to see how unfair it was to make those assumptions - even if he was the one perpetuating them. I came to see Fletcher had layers and underneath that sexy facade was something even sexier - but not without flaws.

Tiffy Preston could be perceived as a spoiled, rich princess - with a touch of condescension. After all, when we meet her, she's out to fire Fletcher based on preconceived notions and rumors. Getting to know her and her background explained so much about her thoughts and behavior. I got to see past her veneer to the real her and, like Fletcher, I liked what I saw.

Fletcher and Tiffy end up engaging in a business arrangement of sorts, and more, because Tiffy wants to know how to be like Fletcher - confident and sexy - and Fletcher is certainly an expert in that field. In the end though, they both learn what it really means to be sexy.

My only wish would be to have had more time with Fletcher and Tiffy together - learning about one another - solidifying their feelings for one another. When they were together, they let the other see things they didn't show anyone else. But at the same time, they were both hiding so much. I also really missed the thriller element usually present in a Huss book. As it stands though, Sexy was fun, steamy, enlightening, and captivating...a story that will stick with me for quite awhile.

SASHA

I’m not a player. I know there are girls out there who do this kind of thing for a living. They scout out prospective husbands. Dress up, put on a show, try to hook one with the bait.

I have no bait. I’m cute—not sophisticated like my mom’s friend Rook, or badass like her friend Veronica, or even smart and sassy like my mom, but cute. A Smurf, they used to call me.

And those ladies are the only real role models I ever had growing up. That’s it. The extent of my wily ways with men come from half-ass copy-catting people who have more game in their pinky fingers than I have in my whole body.

So I’m at a complete loss here. Because Jax insists on treating me like a woman. And I’ve spent a good number of years trying to avoid this kind of scenario. The kind that sweeps you off your feet. The kind that jumpstarts your heart and makes it hum in a way you never thought possible. The kind that makes you doubt all those pledges you made to yourself through the years.

I will never love again. I will never give my heart to a man. I will never have to endure the crushing reality that comes after the only person I ever wanted to be with practically begged me to forget about him.

I tried it, it just didn’t work. I can’t just erase my first crush. I can’t just throw away the one thing I held onto after my father died. I kept the boys at bay all during high school. I didn’t even lose my virginity until my first year of college. Ford made sure of that. The memory of his crazy overprotective antics as I grew up make me smile.

So I don’t have much experience.

But Jax is a player, I can see that now. He’s got me wound up tight. My head is pounding with the possibilities he comes with.

Sex being one of them. I have not had sex in over two years. And I’m not one of those girls who go for a toy at the first hint of a dry spell. After two years though, I’m considering that option.

But now Jax is here. Kissing me. Making my whole body tingle. Awakening the desire I’ve pent up for so long.

“Are you afraid of planes, Sasha?”

I look over at Jax. “What?”

“Does landing bother you?”

“No,” I say, confused. “Why?”

“You’re squeezing my hand so hard, you might be cutting off my circulation.”

Synopsis

Jody Pritchett had a dream...but life had other plans. Instead of singing and dancing on Broadway, Jody's a twenty-year-old single mom, living at home with her disapproving father and overbearing sister. The choice to keep her little Angelia came with a high price and although she adores her baby girl, it doesn't take away the sting of kissing goodbye her chance at a career on the stage.

Leo Sinclair had his own dream...but got lost along the way. After a failed marriage that left him hollow and downtrodden, the Australian songwriter wonders what joy his future could possibly hold. Encouraged by the one family member who doesn't think he's a failure, Leo decides to stop living the life everyone expects him to and start chasing his dreams again.

When the perfect opportunity comes knocking, Leo leaves Australia behind and hops a flight to LA. With his sights set on selling a musical to a Broadway producer, Leo is determined to finally realize his life-long dream. But life gets in the way again, when he spots a young mother outside his apartment in tears. He never realized how one person, one voice, and one Angel could have him contemplating abandoning his dreams once again.

As these two burned hearts wrestle to overcome their past struggles, Leo and Jody must decide what dreams are worth clinging to...because, sometimes, everything you want is not everything you need.

The Songbird series continues to be a delight to read. It hits all my NA buttons and I was excited to be getting Jody's story in Everything.

I met Jody in the earlier novels, as she's Ella's best friend and Morgan's little sister, from Fever and Bulletproof respectively. Jody is an incredibly talented singer and was in school bound for Broadway until she got pregnant. My heart broke for her having to give up her education, her dreams to raise her baby. But I also really admired her decision to keep her baby and figure out a way to make a new life for herself. That took so much courage and for the most part, Jody remained positive about her situation -- a ray of sunshine.

Leo Sinclair has come to the States from Australia for a clean start and a chance to pursue his dreams. He's a composer and has his sights set on Broadway. Things seem to be falling into place but he happens upon a sad, single mom. Things change -- for the better -- at that point as Jody sparks his creative light and maybe something else.

I enjoyed Jody and Leo's story. The dynamics between them and Jody's little girl, Angel, made for an engaging read. Having Ella and Cole, and Morgan and Sean, Mr. Pritchett, and Grandma Deb also added to the realistic feel. I have to admit to not liking Mr. Pritchett, Jody's dad, all that much for awhile, as he wasn't as supportive for Jody as I felt he should be. I also felt like things moved a little too quickly for Jody and Leo, even though chronologically it didn't. I can't put my finger on why I felt that way -- it just did.

Even though this is a romance, I feel like it was more a story of Jody's finding a way to balance her wants, needs, and those of Angel. She made me very proud as she took charge of her life -- all on her own. She's a good mama and handled motherhood at her young age with maturity.

Once again, Ms. Pearl drew me into a comfortable story, with great characters. Her use of music -- a song for every moment, really ties everything (ha!) together. Music has played an important part throughout this series, but especially in Everything. And I adored the songs and their placement, as well as the original lyrics for Leo's musical. I also liked that Ms. Pearl took two characters, who were afraid their past choices meant the future they'd dreamed of was unreachable, and proved that there is always a chance to get everything you need.

Melissa Pearl was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but has spent much of her life abroad, living in countries such as Jordan, Cyprus and Pakistan... not to mention a nine month road trip around North America with her husband. "Best. Year. Ever!!" She now lives in China with her husband and two sons. She is a trained elementary teacher, but writing is her passion. Since becoming a full time mother she has had the opportunity to pursue this dream and her debut novel hit the internet in November 2011. Since then she has continued to produce a steady stream of books. Recently she signed with Evatopia Press and her first Evatopia book is coming out in February 2014 - True Colors, The Masks Series #1. She is very excited to be trying out new things this year while continuing to publish under her own name as well. She has six books planned for 2014 and is excited about writing each and every one of them.
