My pulse quickens as I see a long lump on the bed farthest from where I’m standing.

For a moment, I think I hear him talking in his sleep.  

For a moment, I think of sliding under the covers with him, just to enjoy the irony. We’re sleeping with a wall between us tonight, but instead of a hole he sawed, there’s a door he left propped open. For once, we can actually reach each other.

But he said he didn’t want your company.

I exercise my will power and tip-toe slowly around the hotel bed, so I’m standing right beside his sleeping form.

At least I think he’s sleeping.

His cheek is pressed against the pillow, and his unhurt hand is curled into a fist up near his chin.

I’m fighting the urge to touch him, battling the forbidden desire to lean down close enough so I can brush my lips over his damp hair. From where I’m standing, I can smell the shampoo he used. It’s fruity; sweet. It’s so at odds with his big, rugged body. As if to make me want him more, he shifts his hips a little, and the sheet covering his chest slips down, revealing huge shoulders, smooth, hard pecs, and the upper portion of his incredible abs.

Oh my.

That’s a lot of muscle there.

I take a step back, feeling exhilarated because he’s beautiful, and I’m a bad, bad girl for sneaking in to watch him sleep.

That’s when his hand shoots out and grabs my wrist.

I let out a little cry as he jerks me toward the bed. Then he’s sitting up. His hands close around my waist and I’m dragged atop his sheet-covered lap. He strokes up from my hips, over my sides, and over my bare shoulders, tickling my neck before he gets a firm grip on my face.  

“What did I tell you,” he hisses, “about coming into my room?”

Heat is the first in a serial spin-off of Ms. Gow's Master Chefs series. It's set in Paris at a prestigious culinary school. It was an interesting introduction although I felt a little lost not knowing Taryn or Errol previously, as they are characters from the Master Chefs series.

Bobby is Taryn's younger brother and he's recently relocated to Paris to attend the same culinary school as his sister. Only Bobby seems more interested in cooking with the ladies than learning about cooking. I found Bobby to be rather obnoxious, arrogant and immature, initially.

Lilly is the lovely, young woman who happened upon Bobby one evening, after he'd partied too much. She made sure he was safe because that's what a decent person does. Lilly also happens to be, as it turns out, one of Bobby's instructors. As if that isn't enough, she's also made his mentor. All of which are problematic since she's attracted to him.

I have to say Bobby confused me. I initially disliked him because of his immaturity. And that made it difficult to understand what Lilly saw in him. But she seems to bring out another side of him - one that's sweet. However, because he was so off-putting to begin with, I felt the relationship between them built too quickly and I never felt it. There wasn't enough character development to draw me in.

So while I didn't love Heat, I will probably read the next one if only to see who the real Bobby is.

I'm really digging these erotic re-tellings from Ms. James. I thought Red & Wolfe was great. But in Beast, she's upped the game.

I don't want to say much about what happens in this first installment because it would ruin the experience for you. But I will tell you, I was enthralled. I was shocked. I was titillated. I was tense. I was dismayed but never disgusted.

Beast grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go. I finished it in one sitting. I fell for both Annabelle and Beast quickly. Was it fate? Annabelle is smart, responsible, and loving. Beast is cunning, powerful, and set in his belief he can't be saved.

Ms. James packs quite a bit of story into this novella and has laid the perfect foundation for this modern spin on Beauty and the Beast. What do you believe in? Fate? Karma? Punishment? Compassion? I'm eager to see if Beast is beyond redemption, as he believes. Or if Annabelle can save him before it's too late.

Beast Part Two picks up right where Part One left off. Annabelle is spinning over what happened with Beast and over his proposal. And even more that that, she's spinning over her reaction to him and that proposal. As we see her struggle, we learn more about what it means to be Beast. Little hints are dropped about how he came to power at La Rosa. We also get a glimpse into what the accident and his time in prison has done to his psyche.

With this second installment, Ms. James gave me lots to ponder, and left me white-knuckling my kindle. The way she has allowed us into both Annabelle's and Beast's heads was great. Seeing Annabelle's family dynamics and the politics at the prison where Beast rules provided a lot of insight into them. And I delighted in the fact that the job Beast arranged for Annabelle included a library. ;)

I'm thoroughly enjoying this twist on Beauty and the Beast - and that's saying something since it's one of my favorite fairy tales. I'm so excited to see what direction Ms. James takes this story.

Holy wow! Mister Black was an exciting introduction to In the Shadows - which is a serial - and I'm hooked! There's mystery, intrigue, sexy banter, and smoking sexy times. :)

Talia first meets the enigmatic Mr. Black when they're teens. Although she never thought to see him again, he left an indelible mark on her. Now, as a college senior, she's working at a story that could make her journalistic career once she graduates. At a costume party, where she hopes to score the interview of all interviews, she once again meets Mr. Black. Talia, however, is hiding from her past, so despite the sexy repartee and the time they spend together, she's rather determined to keep their meeting to just that.

**#COYER Review ~ The Arrangement #1 ~ HM Ward**

So, Sharrice over at Reese's Reviews kept raving about The Arrangement by HM Ward. And I kept commenting on how much I'd love to give this serial a whirl. Sharrice, being the kind and generous gal she is, gifted me a copy of The Arrangement #1. And I.LOVED.IT! I wish I'd read it so much sooner! AND, not only am I addicted to this story, but I read the first chapter or so of Secrets and I'm addicted to that series as well!! Hmm, I cleaned one off my ereader and added another few. Is that the way this challenge is supposed to work?!? ;)

The first installment did an excellent job of drawing me in. I feel for Avery's plight and understand her choice to do what she has to in order to finish her degree. And I'm drawn to Sean as well. He's a mystery to solve - a mystery on a motorcycle - and that's hard to pass up. ;) I can't wait to see where this arrangement between Avery and Sean goes.
