**Sidekick Showcase ~ #35 ~ Pluck of the Irish**

Sidekick Showcase (previously known as Sidekick Saturday) is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week's type

• Share a picture (if possible) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment

**********************************
March's themes revolve around the Oscars and St. Patrick's Day. Since St. Patrick's Day is Monday, I decided to use that as my theme this week. However, I've had a difficult time choosing a sidekick.

My theme is Pluck of the Irish

My choice of character:
Dani O'Malley
from Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series

I very much admire Dani. She's had a hard time in her short life - her mother left her, she was recognized as a sidhe seer, she has amazing strength and speed, and she's been made to do cruel and despicable things. She's seen and done things no child (Dani is 13-14) should see. Yet she still sees things through a child's eyes - with wonder and amazement. She even nicknamed herself the "Mega". Dani is witty, always has a snarky comment. This girl has pluck!

"I don't have to do something original, I am original." - Bloodfever

"You suck."
I laughed. "Love you, too, Dani."
She grinned. "I saved you."
"Big-time. And I owe you big-time."
"You can pay be back by telling me about sex." - Dani & Mac, Dreamfever

"Just saying, things ain't always bad just 'cause you don't understand 'em or ain't like 'em. That's like thinking anybody who's smarter or faster is dangerous just 'cause they got more brains or quicker feet. Ain't fair. Peeps can't help how they're born." - Shadowfever

"With the Book hitching rides, hiding on people, guess we're all going to be dressing like skanks for a while, huh? Skintight or skin. Dude, everybody's everything's gonna be hanging out, and some o' those fat chicks at the abbey are gonna gross my eyeballs right outta my head. Muffin tops and camel toes, gah!" - Shadowfever

**Georgina Read-a-Thon ~ Succubus Blues**

I'm participating in the Georgina Kincaid Read-a-Thon because I LOVE THIS SERIES!! Seth Mortensen was my very first book boyfriend aside from Mr. Darcy. I found Richelle Mead shortly after reading the Twilight Saga, and while I was waiting on the next VA book, I became even more entranced with Georgie's series.

I decided to share some quotes from the scenes in Succubus Blues, the first book of the series, where Georgina and Seth first meet. It sets the tone for the book, I think.

Scene setup - Georgina works at Emerald City Bookstore. Georgina's favorite author in the whole world is Seth Mortensen. Seth is doing a signing at the bookstore. And because he doesn't have an author photo in his books, Georgina has no idea what Seth looks like.

"He's not our touring for altruism. He's out touring because the publicists at his publishing house are making him tour," I countered. "Which is also a waste of time, by the way."

He dared a look back at me. "Touring is? You don't want to meet him?"

"I - well, yes, of course I do. It's just, that...okay. Look, don't get me wrong. I worship the ground this guy walks on. I'm excited to meet  him tonight. I'm dying to meet him tonight. If he wanted to carry me off and make me his love slave, I'd do it, so long as I got advance copies of his books. But this touring thing...it takes time. Time that would be better spent writing the next book. I mean, haven't you see how long his books take to come out?"

"Yeah, I've noticed."

...

"Image goes a long way in this business."

He dared a look over at me, still nervous but steadily recovering his composure. "I go more for content."

"Really?" I repositioned slightly so that we were touching again, the soft flannel of his shirt brushing my bare skin. "Because I could have sworn a moment ago you were pretty caught up in outside appearance."

His eyes shifted down again, but I could see a smile curving his lips. "Well. Some things are so striking, they can't help but draw attention to themselves."

"And doesn't that make you curious about what's inside?"

"Mostly it makes me want to get you some advanced copies."

***

And that's how Georgina met Seth. :)

If y'all haven't read this series yet, I can't recommend it enough. It's humorous and poignant, has lots of supernaturals, some HOT guys, and it's a lot of fun.

He Belongs With Me by Sarah Darlington
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 4, 2014

Synopsis:
Two girls. One Leo.

Identical twins, Maggie and Clara Ryder, both grew up with Leo Maddox, billionaire playboy, apparent alcoholic, and heir to his grandfather's world-famous Maddox hotel empire. Their roles were cemented long ago: Maggie, as his best friend and Clara as his childhood nemesis.

But when a simple twist of fate changes everything and both girls start to fall for the lean, mean, ridiculously sexy and seemingly spoiled Leo... which girl will win his heart?

Throw in a little mischief, drama, and one smoking-hot bartender and lines are sure to blur. But one thing's for certain, neither good-girl Maggie nor rebellious Clara will be satisfied until they each figure out where they belong.

I had made certain assumptions going into He Belongs With Me. Although my assumptions were wrong, I couldn't be happier about it. This was such a sweet story and I loved every moment of it!

He Belongs With Me tells the story of Maggie and Clara Ryder, Leo Maddox, and Dean Harvey and how their lives are inextricably entwined. Maggie and Clara are identical twin sisters who are also the daughters of a golfing professional. Although they are identical in looks - with the exception of bra size and the occasional streaks of color in hair - they each seem to want different things out of life. They both give off this confident air but they both hide insecurities behind those confident facades. Maggie is the sweet, responsible twin, whom everyone likes and knows they can count on. Clara is more free-spirited and prickly, always saying what's on her mind.

Leo Maddox is the family friend who's usually drunk, best friends with Maggie, and always pissy towards Clara. Dean Harvey is the former step-brother to Maggie and Clara whom both girls had crushes on. But only one captured his heart. One night, at a country club gala, things are set in motion that put these four on a collision course, and it's an absolute pleasure watching the fallout.

He Belongs With Me also touches on family dynamics, the importance of family, as well as the benefits and drawbacks of living in a close-knit community. It also highlights the dangers of driving a golf cart at night, off-trail, at your father's country club. ;) And maybe it gives a lesson on not ignoring what's right in front of you.

This was such a delightful tale! Ms. Darlington shows great promise with her debut. The story was engaging and I genuinely liked each character. The last chapter was a bit rushed - I would have liked those particular characters to have had a bit more time together. But perhaps this isn't the last we'll hear of Maggie, Clara, Leo and Dean.

Sarah Darlington is obsessive by nature.  When she gets an idea in her mind, it becomes impossible to shake.  Take her debut novel, HE BELONGS WITH ME, for example.  Before deciding to write New Adult Romance, she wrote three different versions of the same Young Adult Novel where her main characters were teenage superheros from an alternative universe.  It never worked.  It drove her crazy.  Then she dropped the superhero bit, added some spice, and suddenly everything started to click.  She found her niche.  And if it hadn't been for her obsessive nature she never would have learned how to write in the process.

Sarah lives in Virginia, is married to her high school sweetheart, and is currently spending her days chasing around a very active toddler.  When she gets a chance to breathe, she writes.

Her name is Evangeline and she is Nephilim.

Evie belongs to the Brotherhood Irin and together with all the other Nephilim of the world she is protector to humanity, protector against evil. But evil has found its way into the Brotherhood.
Someone has murdered her guardian and Marcellus, the New Master makes demands of the warriors that go against all they stand for. Demands Evie just can’t carry out.

Evie uncovers Marcellus’ plan to collect a set of special seals, but when a high-level demon reveals the truth behind the Seals of Hades, Evie know there is no way she can allow the Master of the Irin to get his hands on them. But will keeping the Seals from Marcellus cause her to sacrifice more that she should? Will vengeance for her guardian’s death be enough or will she need more to satisfy her Immortal soul?

"Don't move. Don't even blink," Evie whispered, her face an inch from his. "It's your lucky day, Ren. All I want to do is to talk."

Renfru blinked at her in spite of Evie's instruction. She refrained from killing him for his error.

"Get up and get inside." Evie moved off him and allowed him to rise and walk toward the house, all the while holding the blade to his neck. And she was not surprised when he charged away, despite the viciously sharp blade at his neck.

Typical male, no matter the species. Always had something to prove. Especially when it came to being beat by a girl.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer
downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat...

Here (Here Trilogy, #1)Trapped (Here Trilogy, #2)

Here

Milo Mitchell's life used to be charmed, but that was before her father died, she went a little crazy, and her best friends started acting more like strangers. One Saturday morning as she roams the land around her family's Colorado wind farm, tagging deer for a project that used to be her father's, Milo makes a big mistake: a dart from her stun-gun takes down a teenage guy.

Dressed in a Brinoi tux and armed with a perfectly starched handkerchief, the guy looks like a young James Bond - or some country's missing, playboy prince. Trouble is, he could be either. Mr. Mystery has no idea who or where he is. Afraid her dart caused his amnesia, Milo takes him in, names him Nick, and tries to get used to a hot guy sharing her bedroom.

But Milo's Nick is more than he appears. Soon the pair find his face in a newspaper obituary, and Nick beings to have memories of Milo - who is sure she's never met him. If 'Nick' survived a plunge off a steep cliffside on his way to a family camping trip, why did Milo find him dozens of miles away, wearing a freshly pressed tuxedo? If he's just a high-school athlete, why does he have moves like Jason Bourne? And why does he feel more for her than his surviving family?

When a train of black SUVs shows up on Mitchell property, Nick and Milo run - toward a shocking conclusion that could destroy both their worlds.

**Teaser**

I shouldn’t have come to Milo’s house, but I was riding for my life, and when I thought about it ending, all I’d wanted—literally the only thing I thought about—was her.

It was startling, the clarity, the sense of purpose, because shortly after I saw Milo’s concert, I got mind-jacked. I didn’t know by what, but the presence had a serious hard-on for calculus and physics, other things I shouldn’t know or care about. I had a freaky suspicion that it was the Real Me, and that the Real Me was some kind of wizard/astrophysicist.

I spent two days in my bed after it happened, hung over on numbers, figures, but by the third day I could handle it. And my superpower had come back, stronger.

I knew intuitively how to control the van, how many meters away the Harley was when I landed, how to start it, how to drive it.

I ran for it as the van spun, tires screeching as it turned to come back for me. It had been modified, was faster than the bike, but I knew the town grid completely, and I’d clogged their fuel injector, which meant that ten minutes after our little chase started, I had lost them.

I doubled back, took an indirect path to get to Milo’s house. I didn’t want to leave an easy trail. When I pulled up and they were nowhere to be seen, I thought I had evaded them, told myself I had gotten away. But it wasn’t until I saw Milo that I realized what I’d done. I should have added to my lead, driven far away, stolen another bike, a car, hopped a train, gone anywhere but were I was. Where she was.

And what did I get for my utter stupidity?

Milo, wide-eyed and concerned. Milo, rubbing my back, tapping my knee. Milo heedless of the danger. Milo, achingly close.

She was leaning over me now, blowing on the scrape she’d just cleaned. “That feel any better?”

I nodded, my nose and forehead digging into her blankets.

“Good.” I felt her hand trail up my spine, then lift away and land atop my hair.

“You can go to sleep, you know. I’ll keep watch, just in case.”

I shook my head, dizzy from the pill and her soft hand. “I need to…leave…”

Trapped ( Here #2) Releases on March 19, 2014

When Milo Mitchell falls for the beautiful, tuxedo-clad guy she found wandering her family’s rural Colorado property, she never dreamed he was a scout from another galaxy, or that their
relationship would leave him with an impossible choice: eradicating humankind, or initiating the end of his own people.

Nick’s job is finding the elements his people need to power their elaborate interweb of minds. Being a scout means he is capable of traveling to other planets on his own. It also means that, unlike The Rest, he has access to primitive feelings and individual desires. For eons, he was part of the whole, but when he encountered Milo, his obsession with her changed everything.

Nick’s partner, Vera, is capable of independent thought, but not compelled by it. She is satisfied with her existence as one of The Rest, and she won’t agree that humans are worth sparing; not when their planet has a precious cache of the gold her people need so badly.

While Vera tries to force Nick into endorsing an Earth invasion, working behind the scenes to tie his hands, and the Department of Defense lays a trap for them with Milo’s mom as bait, Nick and Milo are waging their own war – against a primal desire that can only lead to one thing: heartbreak.
