Lucky Morgan has had her share of heartbreak. She is devastated when her boyfriend dumps her after sleeping with him and she vows to herself that she won't be used again. She decides that the next guy she dates and sleeps with, will be her one true love.

Zane Beaumont is the mysterious and snooty guy that comes into her diner every Friday night with a different girl. He's the type of guy she's learned to avoid: carefree, fast, handsome, rich, and sarcastic. Unfortunately, she can't stop thinking about the devilish gleam in his eyes.

When Lucky's car breaks down one night after a party, it is Zane who comes to her rescue. As Zane attempts to sweep Lucky off of her feet, she soon realizes that nothing is as it seems and that Zane may very well be the guy for whom she changes the rules. That is until she meets Braydon.

New Adult Contemporary Romance **Mature Content** Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations and language.

Zane Beaumont has spent the last few months trying to ignore Lucky's smile and trying to exact revenge on Braydon Eagle. Zane will stop at nothing to bring down the man he holds responsible for his brother's death; even if it means risking his new relationship with Lucky.

When heartbreaking secrets from the past are revealed, the fragile trust and love they have built together is put in jeopardy. Lucky and Zane are left to decide if they can overcome the new painful revelations that are threatening to break both of their hearts so that they can focus on their future together.

My Review ~ The Last Boyfriend

You know in Twilight, when Bella tells Edward his mood swings are giving her whiplash? That's kinda how I felt reading The Last Boyfriend. Lucky and Zane, the two main characters, vacillate between no dating/dating, falling for/angry with, wounded and weepy to love, I had trouble keeping up. But I like the crux of this story and it has a lot of potential.

Lucky Morgan is a college student who, after suffering through a traumatic event and the being dumped by her boyfriend, creates a set of rules for herself. Basically the rules equate to not dating anyone unless she can see them as her forever boyfriend. The Zane Beaumont swaggers in and ruins all her carefully laid plans.

Zane Beaumont is a sexy hunk of a man. He's obviously a player as he has a different girl on his arm every Friday night when he strides into the diner where Lucky works. He has to be a commitment-phobe but that doesn't stop Lucky from fantasizing about him. When Zane rides in to rescue Lucky, a glimmer of hope rises in Lucky. Zane makes it clear that he's not relationship material, he doesn't do love. Lucky, however, thinks maybe she can change that.

I had a bit of trouble connecting with Lucky. Besides her mood swings, it wasn't until midway through the book that we learn the other reason behind her last boyfriend plan. Lucky is a resilient young woman though. She's smart and she's set about accomplishing her life plan and I applaud her spirit.

Zane, oh Zane...I connected more with Zane. It took a little while but once I felt I understood the reasons behind his behavior, I felt for him. Oh, he had his mood swings and odd behavior as well, but for whatever reason, I was more forgiving of him.

Braydon is an interesting character. On the surface, he seems like a nice guy. And I'm curious to see where he'll try take his attraction to Lucky. The apparent rivalry between Braydon and Zane has me scratching my head. I am interested in the turn of events brought about by the appearance of Braydon.

Again, I do like the underlying storyline of The Last Boyfriend. And I like the damaged couple finding love trope. I also felt a connection with Zane. And I admired Lucky's resilience despite not feeling a real connection to her. I also enjoyed the mini-history lessons tucked in, as Lucky is a history major. :)

My Review ~ The Last Husband

Okay, The Last Husband drew me in and I became more invested in Lucky and Zane's story. The dual POV really helped. I loved getting the perspective from both sides. And I loved getting in Zane's head.

Lucky and Zane are now living in Los Angeles. Zane drew her here in order to work on a documentary file on a topic close to Lucky's heart. They are also tentatively building a relationship. Lucky is still hopeful and Zane is still repeating his mantra of not doing relationships. And Braydon is still trying to make headway with Lucky. But there is so much more going on. Ms. Cooper injects some suspense in The Last Husband. Her use of the dual POV enhanced that suspense. And that ending...I did not see that coming!

I found I was able to connect more with Lucky in The Last Husband. She still has her moments of volatile mood swing but I felt  she was more relatable as her spirit and strength are more showcased.

Zane is still Zane. But getting in his head increased my understanding of him and his actions. And I loved learning more about him as he opened himself up, little by little, with Lucky. He is really trying to be what Lucky deserves and he had me swooning several times! ;)

Again, I enjoyed the little history lessons woven into the story as Lucky and Zane work on the documentary. I don't know where this storyline is going to go moving forward, but I enjoyed it and meeting the Johnsons.

Overall, I think The Last Husband was a richer read. I was more invested in Lucky and Zane's story. And I was pleased with how Ms. Cooper wrapped things up between them. The shocker at the end...well, I will definitely pick up the next installment in the series come August. ;)
