Review ~ Mend ~ Autumn Grey

Mend (Havoc, #3)Mend
Havoc #3
Release Date: March 17, 2015
Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance
Source: I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 4 Bookworms
Goodreads

Synopsis
Sometimes you win and sometimes you lost, especially in love. Remington has played that game before and lost. One thing is certain...Losing Selene is not an option. As the threat on their lives looms closer, he knows one wrong move and she might disappear from his life forever. The clock is ticking, and Remington is competing against time to save the woman who is fast becoming a part of his soul.

But what happens after that? Will she stay, or will his past destroy any chance with her?

Love is what remains after our reservations melt away; when we let our demons come out to play.

Selene knows it is just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose. Whoever is after them is after blood. Her blood. She should have cut ties with Remington the second she read that first letter, but that is no longer a choice. She has fallen too far, too heard, and she is in too deep, both emotionally and physically.

At times secrets unite, and sometimes they destroy lives. Will the secret that binds them be enough to break Selene and Remington, or will it mend shattered bonds and make them stronger?

Mend was a satisfying ending to Selene and Remington's story. It kept me guessing about the identity of the source of trouble for this couple and I can certainly say I didn't see that coming. I quite enjoyed seeing Selene and Remington grow closer and work to overcome the struggles they were facing early in the fledgling relationship. The chemistry between them is very strong but it's nice to see them with Adrien and other family members - to get a feeling for how they interact as a couple outside of the bedroom as well. And their bond is a strong one.

The only things keeping this from a higher rating is that I felt a few elements related to the reveal were a little too far-fetched and the resolutions between family members seemed a little too easy.

Despite my issues with these things, Mend left me feeling very happy and satisfied with where Selene and Remington ended up. Fate seemed to have brought these two together and hey were good for one another. They each had had their hearts broken but together, they were able to mend, and come out stronger in the end.

**Release Day Blitz & Giveaway ~ Obliterate ~ Autumn Grey**

Happy Release Day, Autumn Grey! Obliterate, the second book in the Havoc Trilogy is now available! I've got all the details about the book, an excerpt, and a giveaway below. Also, you can read my review of Obliterate here.

Obliterate (Havoc #2)
Autumn Grey
Adult Contemporary Romance
Release date: January 5, 2015

Synopsis
"I knew the moment I gave in to pursuing Selene that trouble would follow me. It always does. I should have resisted."

Remington St. Germain is at a crossroads. He can either go after the one person who makes him feel as if he matters—the only person to ever calm the demons that roam his mind—or forget about her. The latter is not an option, even though there is a chance she might reject him. But, damn it all to hell, he will convince her. He has to. Otherwise, he will be right back where he was before she came into his life.

Selene Michaels' stay in Paris is only temporary. She shouldn't get too attached to Remington and his son, Adrien. But, Remington makes her feel alive and reckless, and Adrien makes her loss almost bearable. They complete her. She has a feeling there is more to Remington than a doting single father and her overprotective Prince Charming. Besides, the risk of being with them still looms closeby and she will do anything to keep them safe.

Sometimes life gives you a second chance. But what happens when danger threatens that chance?

Sultry, seductive French music played in the background while I posed in different positions on the wide, four-poster, canopy bed. Sheer white curtains were draped on the black frame with large white pillows tossed haphazardly on the bed.

We'd been shooting for the past thirty minutes when the photographer, a tall, spindly guy with a ponytail, announced we were taking a break. He glanced at me, a frustrated look on his face. I heaved a breath, tossed aside the large pillow I'd been holding against my chest, and slid off the bed. This session had been a bust. From the moment Remington dropped me at Curves, my mind was in total chaos, and kept wandering back to the flowers and the person in a trench coat. Even the Chardonnay I'd been sipping to loosen me up hadn't worked.

I fluffed my hair, before grabbing a ribbon from a table and tying my hair as I walked toward one of the women who were assisting with the shoot.

"Thank you," I said, smiling, and took a white silk robe from her hand and slipped it on.

I caught sight of Remington, standing beside Grace, talking in low tones. His eyes were focused on me as I padded barefoot toward them.

"Hey, baby," I greeted him, pressing my lips to his cheek, but he moved his face so our mouths collided. One of his hands slid around my waist and pulled me to him. One thing I enjoyed about Remington was he wasn't shy about showing his affection in public. No one seemed to mind anyway.

By the time I pulled back, my body felt alive with this man's attention and kisses. I glanced at Grace to find her smiling hugely, giving me a thumbs-up, and fanning herself.

"Are you enjoying yourself?" Remington asked, his deep voice teasing the lust in me as his hand traced circles on my lower back, sending tingles down my spine.

"Um. . .yeah. Sure, I am."

He narrowed his eyes and I could imagine the wheels of his mind turning.

"This girl needs to relax. Let herself go," Grace said, waving her hand. "I have never seen you this nervous, Selene."

Remington's hand halted its soothing motions. "I just need a few minutes. I didn't think I would be this nervous, getting back into modeling."

"Please excuse us, Madame Dresner," Remington said, flashing Grace a smile.

Grace patted her flushed cheeks and I rolled my eyes at Remington's blatant use of charm. "Certainly, and please call me Grace."

"You're incorrigible, St. Germain," I said as he led me into the hallway, his arm a steel band of heat around my waist.

He grinned at me, hitting me with a smile more potent than he had given Grace. "The room," he murmured. I frowned up at him, wondering what he was talking about.

"Your dressing room."

"Oh, yes. I need to freshen up a bit. . ."

"Not what I have in mind." He squeezed my butt to make his point.

"Oh!" My face heated at the suggestion. "So what do you have in mind?" I tossed a flirtatious smile over my shoulder as I opened the door, letting us in. He kicked it shut with his foot as soon as we were inside and swung around, pushing me against the door, and pressing his body against mine. He gripped my hips, pulling me to him.

"This."

Synopsis
Selene Michaels is determined to never let anyone make her feel inferior again. After a painful divorce, she finds herself in Paris on a working holiday, hopeful that this will be the opportunity she has been waiting for. She intends to have fun and maybe find a Prince Charming to flirt with; someone who will show her a good time, treat her right, and awaken her to all she has been missing. What she does not expect to find is Remington St. Germain and his adorable son, Adrien. Remington is intense, devastatingly hot and a Prince Charming on the outside, but a dirty talking, insatiable devil behind closed doors—the opposite of the man she has been hoping for—and not the type to give up on something that he wants. Selene soon realizes that life with Remington is not only interesting, but adventurous. It’s dangerous, and she’s about to find out how dangerous. . . if she is brave enough to take a chance.

So I meant to post this review today, rather than Obliterate's since it doesn't release until Monday, but I guess I'm suffering post-holiday brain scramble. So forgive me - and enjoy my review of Havoc. :)

Havoc is a nice mix of second-chance love, steam, and suspense. And I thrilled at meeting Selene and Remington. I'm anxious to continue their story!

Both Selene and Remington are scarred souls. Selene is piecing her life back together, trying to regain the confidence she once had. She's also reclaiming the career she let go and is in Paris for a new campaign launch. Remington is mysterious and sends mixed signals to Selene in the beginning. But he's an artist and a gorgeous single-dad, so he's broody nature seems fitting.

The sexual tension between Selene and Remington is incredible. Remington seems to be able to say so much with a look, a touch... Grey did an excellent job of conveying the pull between these two. And Grey tells the story from both Selene's and Remington's POVs, so we get to know what each is thinking.

The suspense element was just heating up at the end and it definitely has me on edge. I sympathize with both Selene and Remington - understand their stances on where they should go from here. I do have a theory as to what's going on, so I'm eager to find out if I'm right. Luckily, January 5th, when Obliterate releases, isn't too far away.

Obliterate picks up where Havoc left off. Although Selene was firm in her decision - she and Remington both refuse to let fear rule their lives. Nor do they want to let go of what they've found in each other. I liked that their feelings were important enough to fight for - even if it leaves them vulnerable.

I enjoyed watching as Selene and Remington, and Adrien, all get better acquainted...and fall harder for one another. The suspense element introduced in Havoc is still present - a dark cloud hanging over their happiness.

Grey sent tingles down my spine during two particularly intense scenes. I'm leaning towards being wrong with my original theory of who is behind the threat. And two revelations that occurred really have me scratching my head about what exactly is going on.

In Obliterate, Grey continues to nicely blend the mystery, suspense, steam, and the second-chance romance. I honestly have no idea in which direction things are going to go. Grey left us hanging a bit. And I'm anxious for all the pieces to fall into place.

~EXCERPT~

"Cotton candy is the answer to every single problem." I took it from the man's hand, and once I paid for my purchase, I pinched a small piece, and shoved it in my mouth. Remington's eyes followed my fingers, as the candy disappeared into my mouth.

He dragged his gaze away from my lips, and laughed. "For world problems, too?"

"Especially world problems. If anyone ever took time to listen to me, the world would be a better place." I grinned, pinching a wad of candy and holding it out for him. "Want some?"

Before I could move my hand, his mouth, warm and wet, closed around my fingers. He twirled his tongue around them, his eyes dark and playful.

Oh. My. God. "Good?" I asked hoarsely when he finally freed my fingers from their delicious prison.

"Perfect." He licked his lips while staring at mine, his face much closer than before. I could see every single golden speckle in his eyes.

My head angled automatically as his did. Were we about to kiss? Wasn't it too soon for this?

Oh my God. Why was I questioning everything? Right now, a hot guy looked like he wanted to devour me alive and I was thinking?

He pulled back slightly, studying me, and I kicked myself mentally. My eyes shifted to his jaw, trying to scoop up my thoughts, now splattered at his feet. I'd been so absorbed by him I hardly noticed what was hidden behind that sexy scruff.

"Is that… a dimple?" My finger was suddenly all over the dimple. I found myself doing things without a second thought when I was around Remington. Before I could pull my hand back, he snatched it, bringing it to his mouth.

Again.

"If one little dimple drives you insane, wait until you see the second one." He turned his head.

God, I think I just came.

He swirled his tongue around my finger, nipping the tip gently. I groaned, struggling to pull my hand away before I embarrassed myself in front of the people littering the shop. My heart was racing, and I was out of breath. All he did was show me his dimples and suck my finger.

Oh, shit, I am so in trouble.

"You're a dangerous man, Remington St. Germain."

He laughed, and everything seemed right in the world again. "Is that a bad thing?"

"No," I said, thinking how wonderful it'd be to live dangerously for once. Not care what anyone would think. "It's a very good thing."

HAVOC Excerpt

The past few months had been a blur of tireless workouts, to get back in shape to get back into modeling. If there was a city that’d make me forget the shit plaguing my life, Paris was it. I was here for work and pleasure, and I intended to take the pleasure part very seriously. The only thing clouding my bliss was right there in front of me—the receptionist currently tapping the polished counter of the Hotel L’Arc with his fingers.

I dropped my head in my hands, tired. I'd been waiting for Andrew—my contact with Sara Arden Modeling agency here in Paris—to call me back after having left several voice messages on his phone.

soft, deep baritone on my right pulled me out of my thoughts. I lifted my head and turned around, momentarily forgetting that I didn't have a room for the night as my gaze locked with the tall guy standing beside me, dressed in a black pea coat and jeans. Pain and something like devastation flashed in his eyes, before he quickly schooled his expression.

He was tall, with dark, slightly wavy hair that curled at the nape of his neck, high cheekbones, and a chiseled jaw covered in a light scruff. Dark eyebrows with equally long, spiky lashes fringed his emerald-green eyes, which were now fixed intensely on me, his expression unreadable. And finally, his lips—full but not overly so and wide with a touch of rosy pink that gave them a healthy look.

And he was still staring at me, his brow furrowed as though he were trying to figure out something. Or was it confusion?

My gaze moved away from his as I narrowed my eyes, taking in how his navy-blue blazer framed his broad shoulders and his blue jeans hugged his muscular thighs.

God, he was beautiful. And very scary. Why the hell was he staring at me like that?

Being a size-twelve model, I was used to people staring at me appreciatively. Or sometimes in veiled disgust. I saw none of that on this man's face. Admittedly, not everyone was into full-bodied girls like me. Not knowing what was going on behind those green eyes was as disturbing as the weird pull I felt toward him. I've always heard people say how they meet someone, and right there
the earth shifts around them or some gravitational shit. This wasn't that kind of pull, but a primal awareness of two souls.
