**Sidekick Showcase ~ #43 ~ A Wise One**

Sidekick Showcase (previously known as Sidekick Saturday) is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week's type

• Share a picture (if possible) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment

**********************************
May's theme ~ In honor of Mother's Day we'll pick moms, grandmas, strong female mentors, etc.

My pick this week:
Julia Cohen
from Colleen Hoover's Slammed Series

I'm choosing Julia because she's a mom that I admire - even if she is ficticious. Now, it's been awhile since I read Slammed, but I felt Julia did everything a mom could do to love and protect her kids. She did what she thought was best for them and the words of advice...oh, she's good with the advice. Julia, Layken, and Kel went through a lot. But I think Julia gave Layken and Kel the strength to carry on and the love, support, and coping skills they needed to be good, responsible people. She was the best mom she could be, and that's all a mom can do. :)

Some of Julia's sage advice:

Push your boundaries, that's what they're there for.

Don't take life to seriously. Punch it in the face when it needs a good hit. Laugh at it.

Question everything. Your love, your religion, your passions. If you don't have questions, you'll never find answers.

Be accepting. Of everything. People's differences, their similarities, their choices, their personalities. Sometimes it takes a variety to make a good collection. That same goes for people.

Keep an open mind; it's the only way new things get in.

Before I can register what time it is, or even how long I've been out here on the beach, the sun begins to rise. I start to get this prickling sensation all over my body, the someone-is-watching-me feeling. I look over my shoulder and see Tyson sitting at a table on Blu's patio. The bar is closed and all is quiet on the beach, for now. With the sunrise will come guests to enjoy the beach, so I get up and walk toward him. As I get closer I realize that his back is to me, and I still have that feeling like someone's watching me.

My eyes instinctively scan the beach and the area surrounding the hotel. I don't see anyone or anything that is out of the ordinary. I look up at the hotel. It's beautiful in the fading moonlight. Almost white, though it was more of an orange stucco in the daylight. As my eyes scan the west-facing side of the hotel, they skip past the lower levels and shoot toward the top.

In the middle of the building, a floor below my own, there is a faint light and the silhouette of a person. A woman. A breeze kicks up and I see her hair flare out off her shoulder.

Through the pale backlight I catch a hint of blue.

"Cami."

***Some of Zoey's Favorite Quotes***

“I need someone who has holes in their head that fit all the rocks in mine.” Cami.

I love this quote for two reasons, one being that it explains what Cami wants, and 2, I borrowed it from a friend of mine. It became a favorite quote and was quickly added to the book.

“"Bloody hell! How exactly am I supposed to drink this? It seems like a damn waste."” Cami

This quote always makes me giggle, out of context it might seem strange, while Cami loves to drink extravagant drinks, she’s finally met her match when Tristan buy her a drink for the first time.

“Holy crap, not only has Tristan Michaels bought me a drink, but he is standing on the beach, not fifty yards in front of me, half naked and tattooed.” Cami.

When the man of her dreams becomes a real life person in front of her very eyes, is why I LOVE this quote.

“"I trust you," she whispers and looks deep into my eyes, into my soul. Her expression reiterates the words she's just spoken.”
Tristan.

I love this because it is the moment everything shifts for Tristan and how he feels about Cami.

“"I was having fun with that," I mutter.

He lowers himself to his knees. "I know. But now it's my turn."” Cami

You’ll have to read Finding Love’s Wings to figure out why this is my favorite quote.

What Happens Tomorrow by Elle Michaels

SynopsisNo one knows what happens tomorrow…

When Brooke Adams suffers the unimaginable, she knows her heart will never be whole again. Faced with the choice of giving in to her grief, or fighting to regain a resemblance to the life she once knew, she chooses to fight.

Not ready to give up, Brooke starts a new life where no one knows her past. As she slowly puts the pieces of her life back together, Brooke meets her neighbor, Tyler Reynolds. Soon, he becomes her
friend, her rock…and her complicated constant.

Despite her best efforts, she finds herself falling for him, but what will happen if Tyler learns the truth about her past and realizes just how deep the damage is?

The risk might be too much…

What Happens Tomorrow is a moving story of a woman who lost everything but chose to survive and the emotional upheaval she experiences when life offers her a second chance at love.

Brooke Adams once defined herself as many things. Now she's recently moved to California Brooke. She needed a fresh start away from memories of her past, and she and her dog, Charlie, have been coping. Brooke made some new friends - closer than any she'd ever had - but they don't know the truth about her. Now that Tyler is asking for more than friendship, Brooke has to decide if she's ready to really let him in.

Tyler Reynolds is one special man. He's been biding his time waiting for Brooke to be ready to accept what's been between them since the day she spilled coffee all over him. Tyler really is kind and patient and loving with Brooke. He realizes she is hiding something and he's willing to give her the time she needs to trust him enough to share it.

I liked this story, however, it took quite awhile before I made the emotional connection with Brooke I was expecting. The things she'd endured - I should have felt it more profoundly than I did. And I can't put my finger on why I didn't. I did eventually get there buy my emotional response was slow. One other thing that bothered me was the plot line involving Tyler's brother, Ethan. I didn't understand the purpose of that part of the story.

Despite those issues, I found it endearing to watch as Brooke and Tyler's relationship grew. Brooke had a lot of baggage to work through in order to really move on with her life. It was a difficult transition, with lots of guilt and many tears. But Tyler was right there beside her, holding her hand every step of the way. It was his love that assured her it was okay to let go of the past - not forget it - and live and love again.

I appreciated that Ms. Michaels addressed how, following a tragic loss, we sometimes see the past 'through rose-colored glasses'. And I liked how she revealed Brooke's memories which helped her see things in the proper light. What Happens Tomorrow is a touching story of learning to accept that we don't know what tomorrow will bring, and to grasp onto that second chance when it's offered.

**Blog Tour Review & Giveaway ~ Enthrall Her ~ Vanessa Fewings**

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Vanessa Fewings' Enthrall Her. This is the second book in the Enthrall Sessions. I reviewed Enthrall, the first book, yesterday and you can read that review here. My stop today includes all the pertinent details for the book, an excerpt, my review, and a giveaway.

Enthrall Her (Enthrall Sessions #2)
Publication Date: May 20, 2014
Genre: Erotic Romance
Event Organized by: Literati Author Services, Inc.
Source: I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review
Rating: 4.5 Bookworms

Synopsis
This is the escalation of the forbidden. This is the power of Enthrall.

Deemed too feisty to train. Too defiant to dominate. Mia's journey into the world of the forbidden takes its next step.

Richard Booth, her master, must make the crucial decision...let her go or give her over to the only man who can her truly subjugate her, Cameron Cole, Director of both Enthrall and the preeminent BDSM
manor Chrysalis, and a connoisseur of the dark arts. Cameron's gift with shaping blossoming submissives will ensure Mia reaches her potential, a destination that may take her too far.

Mia's choices will lead her to places both within and without that she never dreamed possible.

But when her training is complete, will Cameron be able to return her to Richard, or will her transformation have bewitched him beyond repair?

**I want to note now that in my review for Enthrall, I said that it was readable even if you aren't into BDSM. Enthrall Her is a bit more graphic in its description of BDSM. I felt it was very tasteful, but if you are averse to reading about BDSM, this may not be your cup of tea. Although I hope you'll give it a chance.**

Holy hotness!! Enthrall Her was incredible. The stage was set, the dynamics were already established and the story unfolded beautifully.

Enthrall Her finds Mia growing and changing. She is struggling with a secret from her past as well as a shocking revelation in her present. As she and Richard are now involved, he tries helping her cope. But it's Cameron who is able to give her the tools she needs. Mia is also able to explore her interest in the BDSM lifestyle. Richard doesn't feel capable of training her to be his submissive, so Cameron takes her under his tutelage. Mia finds it hard to completely submit though - fearful of losing herself. Cameron has always been able to bring out her submissiveness though. He is able to help her lay to rest her demons - "using pain to banish pain" - the guilt and shame she feels over her childhood. But as Cameron works to transform Mia, something changes between them. And that something may irrevocably alter their lives.

I found this installment riveting! Not only is the forbidden lifestyle explored, but forbidden feelings between Cameron and Mia as well. I must admit that although I like Richard, it's Cameron that really intrigued me. Of course, that might be because he's such an enigma. I think he's also a stronger alpha male and seeing his softer side with Mia made him all the more appealing.

I believe this is my first true BDSM read - although I do think it'd be considered BDSM-lite. It is heavier than, say, Fifty Shades. What I most enjoyed about this BDSM element is Ms. Fewings' inclusion of psychology. Ms. Fewings incorporated glimpses of why someone would choose to enter this lifestyle. And Cameron's idol is Carl Jung and he did serve his patients and clients in the way that best suited them. I also appreciated that Ms. Fewings addressed questions that arose, for me anyway, such as how a woman not develop feelings for her Dom when said Dom is only training her for another Dom.

Enthrall Her captivated me. I adored all the interactions between Mia and Cameron and I was satisfied with the way Ms. Fewings ended this installment. I'm also extremely anxious for #3. I can't wait to find out where things will go from here!

GIVING MY WRIST another pull, I tried to escape this handcuff
securing me to the headboard of the four-poster. I’d been lying here for the last ten minutes, feeling a heavy mixture of arousal and frustration. Being restrained was doing crazy things to my body. My toes curled in anticipation.

Cameron Cole’s signature style was all dark wooden furniture with understated elegant pieces like this bed, that corner high-back chair, that mahogany dresser over there, and a flat screen TV halfway up the wall.

Breaking my stare from the fine silver chain dangling above, taking in deep calming breaths, I returned my attention to the décor, replaying the words I’d practiced before I left Malibu. Words that would change my life forever. The kind that meant there’d be no going back.

This wasn’t about securing your girlfriend to the bed as a precursor
to a night of lovemaking. No, this was secure your best friend’s
girlfriend to the bed and hope she tells you what the hell she’s doing here, dressed provocatively in a corset, high-top stockings, and a thong. My blonde locks were tussled to perfection and my makeup hid the fact I was only twenty-one. I’d gone for sex on a stick.

It was hard to tell from Cameron’s expression if it was working.
Casually, he leaned against the doorjamb, his tuxedo rounding out his usual look of perfection, tieless and with an open collar, hinting he might relax that fierce demeanor.

He sipped from a glass of dark amber liquor. “Can you unlock this?” I said. He shook his head. These were his handcuffs and this was one of his many bedrooms in his million dollar Beverly Hills mansion. I trusted Cameron, really I did. How could I not? He was a respected psychiatrist and he’d also been the one to get me the job as secretary at Enthrall, L.A.’s elite S & M club. A place where the rich played out their darkest fantasies. Becoming Enthrall’s secretary had seen financial freedom for me as well as placing me on a fast track to maturity.

I needed to know that look on Cameron’s face wasn’t fury.

Not that I wasn’t used to that expression, and coming from one of the most handsome faces I’d ever seen it had the expected effect of
stunning me into silence. It didn’t help that his genius outshone his
beauty.

Short black inky hair framed that intelligent face. A chestnut gaze
saw beyond what you willingly shared. As the director of Enthrall,
Cameron could hire and fire at will and he’d plucked me out of
obscurity, only it wasn’t my admin skills he’d been interested in
but my innocence.

He’d used me to entice his best friend Richard Booth away from his obsessive thrill seeking. Richard thought nothing of swimming with sharks as a way to get his adrenaline fix. He faced off with danger and then gave it the finger.

Still, I adored my beautiful Richard. I hadn’t known love until I’d met him. It was that love that had driven me here tonight. The
willingness to do anything to save the most important relationship I’d ever had.

“Dr. Cole,” I tried again, “you told me I could talk with you anytime.”

“It’s Cameron.” He strolled on in, exuding dominance.

This was the kind of man you could tell anything to. Though I’d
never want to disappoint him. Cameron set the bar so high that those around him could never reach it.

That familiar slow and steady walk, that ability to rule a room without speaking a word. It was impossible to drag my gaze away.
This man left both men and women alike spinning. His laser-sharp
perception ensured any outcome he desired. Yet his kindness, his
ability to always know what to say and when, put you at ease and
balanced out his intensity.

I wondered what it might be like to get inside Cameron’s head. Turn the tables on him for a change. That ability of his to see the truth beneath the surface of avoidance was admirable. Cameron was a mystery. Surrounded by the city’s most beautiful women, yet even after the several months I’d known him I’d never seen him with a lover. I’d merely witnessed swarms of ever hopeful submissives encircling him at parties. The lure of an impossible conquest.

Cameron perched on the edge of the bed and it dipped slightly. He
was close. Too close. Close enough for me to get a whiff of his
cologne that sparked every cell in my body.

He knew he was affecting me. I gave the handcuff another tug and it clanked its disapproval.

His lips curled in amusement. “Mia, if you ever enter any one of my properties uninvited again I will not be held responsible for my actions. Understand?”

I slid down the bed frame.

“Interesting response.”

Focus, Mia, I warned myself. Ask him. Say it. Go through with why you’re here.

A thrill tingled between my thighs as my imagination ran off with
thoughts of what I might experience if I dared to go through with this. The dominatrixes at Enthrall, the ones I affectionately called the ‘girls,’ had told me Cameron could make a woman pass out from pleasure. I believed it. He was making me lightheaded with merely his presence.

With Cameron’s laser-sharp perception, I didn’t stand a chance. He
was intoxicating. Any woman would be hard-pressed to refuse his
advances if she were lucky enough to get his attention. He oozed
raw sexuality. The get under your skin kind. The stun you into
silence kind. Even the way he set his glass down on the side table
reeked of control.

Light glinted off his onyx handcuffs.

“Next time, Mia,” his tone was deep, cultured, “choose somewhere
else to turn up in the middle of the night. Like Bailey’s. That’s what best friends are for.”

“Bailey’s out with Tara,” I said. “It’s her mom’s birthday.” He picked up his drink and ice clinked. “Want a sip?” I rested my lips against the glass where his had been and he tipped the tumbler. Bitterness burned my throat, sending a shiver through me. He reached in and removed a cube of ice and popped it into my mouth. I resisted the urge to nip at his fingers, grateful for the melting ice soothing this burn.

Cameron acted as though all this sensual tension was business as
usual while placing the glass down squarely on the coaster, taking his time.

“Say what’s on your mind,” he said.

“Richard refuses to talk about it.”

“It?”

“Me becoming his submissive.”

Cameron narrowed his eyes. “He has mentioned his concerns.”

Of course he had. Richard and Cameron were best friends.

They told each other everything. Life had been going along perfectly well, my relationship blossoming, my trust solidifying, our intimacy progressing. It had been decided that I would become Richard’s submissive. Days later my dream had been shattered.

Everything I’d known had been turned upside down when a family secret had reared its ugliness and caused my entire world to implode. A revelation so dark that it had sent me into a tailspin.

And Richard had changed his mind.

If there was one thing I knew how to do well it was survive. Though my ability to cope was apparently freaking out Richard. He’d expected something different, a crumbling victim of her circumstances. Richard didn’t believe I could get over something so quick. Move on. You’d have thought I’d have received a standing ovation for my strength in leaving family trauma behind me, but no. Instead, Richard treated me like I was made of china.

These men were infamous for helping victims deal with their pasts. Using pain to banish pain. Not with me apparently. I was too broken even for them.

“Share your thoughts, Mia,” said Cameron, shaking me from my
daydreaming.

I didn’t want to talk about any of that now. Didn’t want my father’s betrayal to encroach on this moment. Not after the courage I’d rallied to be here. I was alone in a room with the most incredible man I’d ever met, other than Richard of course, and Cameron was the one man who could save my relationship.

I needed to focus.

Not only was Cameron a master of conversation, he’d also conquered the art of silence. I wanted him to speak the words I
couldn’t say.

“How long have you lived here?” I said, slicing through the tension.

“I’ve owned this property awhile. I entertain here. My family’s coming into town, so I need to prepare the house.”

“To impress them?”

“They don’t need impressing.”

“The Venice Beach house is too small?”

“It’s the location. Too many tourists.”

“What about Chrysalis?” I cursed myself for sounding so stupid.

Cameron looked amused. “I can’t have a naked gimp appear from nowhere and scare the hell out of my Great Aunt Rose, now can I?”

“That would not be good.”

“That would be very bad.” He flashed a mega-watt smile. “Very bad indeed.”

Chrysalis was a fetish manor extraordinaire, visited from all over the world by rich clients who wanted to live out their fantasies. A place where L.A.’s finest partied to the extreme, with Cameron Cole as the grand master.

Maybe I really did need therapy. I wasn’t going to let him into my
mind, though. That was the promise I’d made to myself before
stepping foot over the threshold of the grandest foyer I’d ever seen.

“Do you live here alone?”

“Let’s talk about you—”

“Will your dad be coming too?” I sounded casual. “That will be nice.”

“Why are you here, Mia? Straight to the point, please. It’s late.”

I could do this. I was ready. So I braced for the words I’d practiced
to say.

“Mia,” he coaxed.

“I want...”

“I’m listening.”

I couldn’t say it.

“Ah,” he said darkly. “You want me to teach you how to become a good submissive.”
