An Endless Summer (Summer #2)
by C.J. Duggan
Release Date: 07/17/13

Summary from Goodreads:

Sean looked out over the lake, squinting against the sunlight. He turned to me, his expression sobering as his eyes flicked over my face in a silent study.

“Come on Amy, I saved you once, I’ll save you again.”
I met his stare unflinchingly. “I don’t need saving.”
A wicked grin formed slowly. “Don’t you?”

After a rebellious summer night that almost claimed her life, Amy Henderson – the Onslow publican’s only daughter – is sent away to suffer a fate far worse than any other punishment:

Boarding School.

Three years on, a now nineteen-year-old Amy returns to Onslow for the summer. What once was a cauldron of activity with live bands, hot meals and cold beers, the Onslow Hotel now lies dark, deserted and depressing. All fond childhood memories of loitering on the hotel stairs and eavesdropping on customers’ colourful conversations are in the distant past.

How had her dad let it come to this?

With the new threat of putting the Onslow up for sale, Amy reluctantly turns to a local tradesman for help: Sean Murphy, the very same Onslow boy who saved her life all those years ago. With his help and that of some old friends, the task is clear: spend the summer building the hotel back up to its former glory or lose it for good.

In an endless summer, Amy soon realises that sometimes in order to save your future, you have to face your past, even if it’s in the form of a smug, gorgeous Onslow boy.

My Review

*sigh* Oh, Sean Murphy. You stole my heart in The Boys of Summer and after reading An Endless Summer, it's forever yours. *swoon*

An Endless Summer revolves around Amy Henderson, whom we met in snippets in The Boys of Summer, and Sean Murphy. Amy is the daughter of Uncle Eric, who owns the Onslow, and cousin to Chris and Adam. She lived at the Onslow with her dad and Chris until one drunken night, where she almost drowned, got her banished to the city and an all-girl boarding school.

Now, she's graduated and somewhat adrift. Not knowing exactly what she wants to do with her life, she decides a summer at the Onslow might help. When she arrives at the Onslow, she finds its condition far from that of its previous glory. In her quest to restore her home, she finds far more than she was anticipating.

Sean, oh Sean...He's just rocked up to town, back from a major construction job. He has his own company now and is quite successful. And he's still as handsome and cocky as ever. His first night back, he stops by the Onslow for a beer. But he ends up coming to Amy's rescue...again!

One of the things I loved about Sean, and Amy too, from The Boys of Summer is their snark, although in that book, it's never directly aimed at one another. In An Endless Summer, it's on -- full bore! And I loved it. The banter between them is always snarky and full of innuendo. And it's just so much fun!

*****

"Why, Amy Henderson, you're making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside."...
..."Yeah, we'll call it a momentary lapse of sanity."  --Sean and Amy

"How fast does this thing go, anyway"
Sean's smile widened. "How fast are you willing to go?" --Amy & Sean

"It always seems that every time I bring you home you're missing some article of clothing. Shoes. Shorts. Shirt. Seems to be a pattern with you."
"Only around you it is," I said.
"I can't help it if you can't keep your clothes on around me," he teased. --Sean and Amy

******

It seems everyone can see what's going on between Amy and Sean except Amy...

Amy struggles with wanting independence and standing up to her fears as well as feeling helpless against the world. But as Sean tells her more than once, she's very stubborn and pig-headed. So Amy fights the good fight.

Sean, in Amy's eyes, seems to have remained his usual womanizing self. But things have changed somehow between them. Amy can't tell is he's playing her or not despite Sean's insistence that he doesn't play games.

The entire case of characters from The Boys of Summer return in An Endless Summer. Some things have changed but most have stayed the same. It was as though I was getting together with good friends after not seeing them for awhile. The whole group of friends bands together to clean up and restore the Onslow to its former glory, only to learn Amy's parents may have other plans for the hotel.

An Endless Summer is a sweet coming of age story just as The Boys of Summer is. I so enjoyed seeing Amy stumble and fumble along as she figures out what she wants out of life -- what's important. And although Sean is older, Amy's return to Onslow spurs him into deciding what he wants in life as well.

An Endless Summer is an excellent followup to The Boys of Summer. And I'll be eagerly awaiting the next in Ms. Duggan's Summer series.

**I received an ecopy of this book, as part of the tour, in exchange for an honest review.
