Title: FAITHFUL (Fearsome #3)
Author: S.A. Wolfe
Age Group: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 23, 2014
Goodreads

Book Description:
A bombshell waitress who wants more. A former FBI agent who wants less ...
except for her.

Imogene Walsh has always been unapologetically confident and ruthlessly opinionated with people, particularly men. No one is spared from her unfiltered mouth, but it hasn’t seemed to deter Cooper MacKenzie. Although he is not the clean-cut, businessman type she’s always thought she should pursue, Imogene is drawn to the sexy outsider who is the hottest topic in town gossip, the fantasy
heartthrob women love to speculate about.

She has spent most of her life in the little town of Hera, NY, putting her numerous forgettable relationships behind her and floundering in both her professional and personal life. Work and men—neither have gone well for her. Now it’s reached the point where she wants to stop playing it safe.

It may be time to live up to her tough reputation and take a chance on Cooper, the only man who isn’t intimidated by Imogene’s brash personality. However, it could be a thrilling ride that doesn't end well.

*This is a standalone novel in the FEARSOME Series.

My single friends are getting married and caught up in their newfound blissfully wedded lives of creating homes and being spouses. Meanwhile, I’m being left behind.
Therefore, I did what any normal woman would do. I grabbed the first bottle of champagne Lois had opened and got busy, pushing that tinge of sorrow and jealousy so far down my throat all I could feel was a complacent numbness.
Now I’m losing the cute, little runt, and I’m lost, stuck in the maze. I stop running and put my hands on my hips as I catch my breath while Toby’s giggles continue to grow farther away.
“Imogene,” a deep voice purrs my name, smooth and rich like sweet liquid on his lips.
When I turn around, he smiles. Man, he is handsome. I’ve always thought so, but tonight, the moonlight captures his tall, lean form in an unearthly sight of mythical beauty. His shoulder-length golden  hair shines, and his gray eyes stalk me like a wild cat. Being drunk takes my imagination to thoughts I have been dismissing for months. Inebriation is also what makes it easy for me to walk quickly towards him and fling my arms around his neck. Then I pull him down for the kiss I have long fantasized about.
Strong and solid, he resists my brazen behavior before giving in and kissing me deeply. The smoothness of his movements comes from experience and confidence and, hopefully, excitement for me. One of his hands presses against my lower back, pulling me tightly to him while the other reaches under my skirt and firmly holds one of my butt cheeks.
I grab fistfuls of his thick hair as I stand on tiptoes to kiss him. When we unlock our lips for air, I feel him smile against my cheek, and then I bury my face against the warm skin of his neck.
“Imogene,” he whispers, his breath tickling my ear and sending a shiver of tingles through me. I close my eyes and hold on to him. “I think I drank too much.”
“I’ve got you.”
I feel my feet leave the ground as he lifts me up. My head is about to roll backwards before he adjusts me so my face rests against his hard chest. My arms are still wrapped around his neck as a sleepy contentment takes over my body. I sigh, and his chest rumbles with a laugh.
This is an unexpected turn of events, one I don’t want to end.

Freedom by S.A. Wolfe
Fearsome #2
Release Date: April 7, 2014
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Source: I received am ecopy of the book in exchange for an honest review
Rating: 4 Bookworms

Synopsis
Dylan Blackard is back in town and certain everyone knows his secrets.

Putting away his notorious reputation as the wild guy with a womanizing past, he's now on a new path, wanting to be the good guy his brother can stop worrying over. As long as he gives up his old vices - including women - he can keep himself on the straight and narrow and finally live up to everyone's expectations.

However, obsessing about his lack of self-control is making Dylan on humorless, cranky hermit. That all changes, though, when his brother hires a new employee, the stunning Emma Keller, who will be sharing an office with him and all of his tightly wound nerves.

Emma, a spunky young woman from New Jersey, isn't about to feel sorry for Dylan and his situation. She is beyond distracting to him, and that is enough to turn his emotional balancing act upside down. Not only is she intelligent, and a smart aleck, she's also very determined to pull the sexy Dylan Blackard out of his self-imposed isolation.

From the moment he meets her, he feels alive again, but Emma doesn't come as a gift with a pretty bow; she comes with major baggage - a family embedded in its own tumultuous history.

Will Emma be the tipping point that causes Dylan to regress into his past destructive behaviors...or will he actually pursue her for keeps?

Freedom is the second book in the Fearsome series. While I liked Fearsome, I enjoyed Freedom more. Getting to know Dylan better was a joy. And Emma was a wonderful match for him. Freedom can be read as a standalone. However, I think having read Fearsome and having some backstory added to my enjoyment.

Dylan Blackard has a mental illness. Following a stint in a mental health facility, the boy who was once known as a party boy and lady-killer has a new regiment. Dylan now works, exercises and steers clear of alcohol and women. He also takes meds and visits is psychiatrist regularly. Things are going so well for this new anti-social Dylan until Emma Keller shows up.

Emma Keller is Blackard Designs' new marketing and sales assistant. Emma was raised around dubious people who participated in dubious business practices. She even dated the son of a top man in the 'business'. But she wants to separate herself from that life. So she's come to Hera to start fresh with a new job and a new place. She's not thrilled to find she's attracted to her new office mate, who also happens to be her new boss' brother. She's even less thrilled to find her old life has followed her to Hera.

Maybe it's because I already knew Dylan but whatever the reason, I felt that character development was better in Freedom. And I also felt as though Ms. Wolfe did a better job at showing me rather than telling me. Freedom is told in alternating POV - Dylan and Emma - and that added a lot to the character development and the story. I felt as though I knew Dylan and Emma - how their pasts affected them and who they aspired to be in the now. I also enjoyed the action and tension brought with the developments surrounding Emma and her family. Those developments also introduced a few new characters, one of whom, Cooper, I'm hoping to see more of.

One thing I missed, having read Fearsome, was the way the town elders, Archie, Eleanor and Lois, were so involved in the lives of the youth. While they made a brief appearance, they weren't as big a presence in Freedom.

I liked how Dylan and Emma's love blossomed. It might have been a little fast but as Dylan's doctor told him,

"You realize there's no right way of falling in love."

And both he and Emma were rather cautious about their relationship. Dylan was especially concerned due to his past. But I liked how things between them developed.

Obviously, I liked Freedom. I'm glad I decided to continue in this series. Ms. Wolfe's writing showed growth. I liked that she gave me a better understanding of Dylan's illness, as it plays an integral role in the story. And the excitement added with Emma's baggage, made the story more entertaining. I look forward to more from Ms. Wolfe.

"You're showing me who I am," he whispers in my ear. "You're showing me what it's like to go through the motions of being with someone, giving in sexually while managing to be empty inside. I'm not a poet, but I understand you. And I'm not empty inside when I'm with you."

**Blogger 'Duel" Review ~ Fearsome ~ S.A. Wolfe**

Fearsome by S.A. Wolfe
Publication date: October 2013
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis
Fearsome

Jessica Channing’s big city life should be more exciting than sixty-hour work weeks and popcorn nights with her girlfriends, but it’s not. She has worked hard fulfilling her role as a child prodigy and graduating college years before her peers. She’s the good girl, the brilliant girl.

Unfortunately, she’s also the dateless young woman.

That all changes with one phone call. Jess’s rigid, predictable life upends when she must visit a small, obscure town to deal with a relative’s death. This isn’t just any little speck of a town, though. Long lost memories come crashing down on Jess’s world when two men, the Blackard brothers, seem to lure her in.

Dylan is cover model handsome, and pursues Jess the minute she comes to town. Then there is tall, dark and gorgeous Carson, who hides his own secrets behind his hardened reserve.

For someone who has been governed by her own obsessive behaviors and fears, Jess lets her guard down and jumps at the opportunity to have an affair with a man she actually finds attractive for a change.

There’s just one problem. Jess discovers that she can’t have a simple romantic fling because true passion does indeed come with some very big strings attached to it. She will have to own up to her own truths about love and face the two extraordinary men; both troubled in their own ways and both determined to have her.

I'm thrilled to be 'dueling' with Lexxie @Unconventional Book Views over this book. We actually read it awhile ago, and while we both enjoyed it, we also had a few issues with it.

My initial reaction to this book was that overall, I really enjoyed it! I gave it 4 Bookworms because I liked the characters, the story and the small town camaraderie of Hera. But the more I thought about it, and talked with Lexxie about it, the more I waffled on my rating.

Our heroine, Jessica, is very logical and analytical. She's come to Hera to deal with the house she's inherited from her aunt - an aunt she only vaguely remembers. While in Hera, she becomes reacquainted with the Blackard brothers, whom she spent time with as a child. Dylan is affable, gorgeous, and relentless in his pursuit of Jessica. Carson is serious, intense, and just as gorgeous as his brother. Jessica, not have much experience with boys, finds herself torn between these two brothers.

Here's a little of what Lexxie and I chatted about:

I liked it but there were things that could have been fleshed out better...like I didn't ever 'feel' that Jessica was a math genius.

LOL, me neither! We were told several times how smart she was, but she didn't show it to us that much. The same with her programming skills -- we were told she did it, but we never actually saw her do anything special.

Exactly! I liked her though, despite that. Some of her decisions were questionable, but then, I have to remember her age.

And how sheltered she has lived up until she arrives at her aunt's house. I liked her too, but I thought it was a little icky that she got it on with both brothers.

Oh yeah, that too.

I've edited our conversation because I don't want to be spoiler-y. I will say there were some literary devices used by Ms. Wolfe that we both took issue with.
***

It was like she wanted to try different things but didn't have the guts to go through with her choices completely. I did enjoy the story though.

I wanted to know more about her aunt and why there was a rift in the family - that wasn't explored to my satisfaction.

Yeah, some of the storylines weren't completed, and some information just got thrown in there without any followup.

I was looking over my notes and remembering my frustration over Jessica's inability to make a decision. I understand that feeling of having had all your decisions made for you - but if she's such a math whiz, shouldn't she approach things a bit more logically?

Yes, she should have made a spreadsheet or something. :) Or an equation.

LOL

***
My finals thoughts ended up as this:

Jessica has led a very sheltered life and was raised by very controlling and stoic parents. Her father made almost all her life decisions for her, even those dealing with college. Fearsome essentially chronicles the beginning of Jessica's journey towards being fearsome...making her own decisions, figuring out what she wants in life.

Fearsome has a great cast of characters. I delighted in seeing Jessica's friendships with Lauren and Imogene, girls from Hera, blossom. I liked both Carson and Dylan, but for different reasons. And I look forward to getting to know them even better.

Despite my issues with some of the plot devices and feeling as though parts of the story weren't explored enough, I still liked Fearsome. And, since it was the first in a series, I'm hoping eventually all my questions will be answered. :)
