Boyfriend From Hell (Falling Angels Saga, #1)

Boyfriend From Hell
#1 Falling Angels Saga
E. Van Lowe
YA Paranormal Romance

Synopsis
Fifteen year-old Megan Barnett and her single mom, Suze, have a special relationship—they are friends, close friends, who do almost everything together.

“But come on, guys, she’s my mother… Can I really tell her that while we’re snuggled up on the sofa watching Spider Man Three, I’m secretly undressing James Franco with my eyes? Of course not…”

The special bond takes a turn for the worse when Suze decides to start dating again. She hasn’t had a man in her life since Megan’s father left ten years ago.

Enter two mysterious young men, Megan’s new classmate, sinfully attractive bad boy, Guy Matson, and the dangerously handsome art dealer, Armando. Before long Megan and Suze both wind up in steamy relationships. But neither of the handsome pair is quite what he seems. In fact, one of them is Satan, with his sights set on a new bride. Megan has precious little time to figure out how to stop him. If she doesn’t, either Megan or Suze are quite literally going to HELL.

My Reviews

Boyfriend From Hell
Boyfriend From Hell was a fun read! It does feature a little darkness...Satan does make an appearance, after all. ;) But I enjoyed the story and getting to know all the characters.

Megan Barnett has a pretty sweet life. She has an awesome mom, great best friends, and a hot new guy just joined her mathlete team. But things begin to change the day her mom decides she'd like to have a boyfriend. Wait. What? Megan doesn't even have a boyfriend.

So, as Megan's mom, Suze, embarks on her quest to get a date, Megan has to deal with her feelings about this. Particularly once she becomes suspicious of the man wanting to date her mom. Suze thinks he's great, but Megan thinks he just might be from Hell.

I found Boyfriend From Hell very engaging, well written, with nicely developed characters. It was very engaging with its realistic portrayal of teenage life with art and the supernatural woven in. I liked how Megan grew over the course of the book. She realizes what's important and I appreciated that. I also enjoyed the snarky humor. The friendships in the story were well defined too. Y'all know I love a great supporting cast and this book has one! I LOVED Matt! I know...but I did.

The mystery also kept me engaged. Overall, this was a very entertaining YA book.

Earth Angel
Oh my! Earth Angel is even better! It picks up where Boyfriend From Hell ended and doesn't slow down!

Megan, having dealt with the aftermath of defeating Satan, is trying to put her life back to normal. However, Erin is not speaking to her. And although Guy has declared his love, he reveals a secret that could destroy their budding relationship. And, as if that wasn't enough, Megan must also deal with the fact that she's being stalked...by a demon!

Earth Angel is a richer experience. We get to know the characters in depth and it is very rewarding. Mr. Lowe's paints the characters as much more complex in this installment. And that, coupled with the action of the story, made for a more satisfying read. Megan learns more about herself and about true friendship and loyalty. I also love that she attacks problems so logically - like a true mathematician. :)

Earth Angel is equally as tense and action-packed as Boyfriend From Hell, as Megan and her cohorts must figure out a way to deal with the demon stalker. And they must also deal with plain old high school drama.

Again, I liked the combination of realistic high school issues intertwined with the paranormal. Fallen angels, Nephilim, demons, plus the poplarati all combine for a great read.

Earth Angel was a deeper story and I think even more enjoyable. I'm anxious to read the conclusion to this series!

About E. Van Lowe

E Van Lowe was born in the Bronx a long time ago, back in the days when children were supposed to be seen and not heard. Fortunately for E, his parents allowed him to speak freely. Unfortunately for his parents and older brother, E had a lot to say. He was speaking quite freely until one day, while his mother was trying to watch her “stories” (which is code for soap operas), she suggested that instead of speaking freely, he write all his important thoughts down. E wrote down many important thoughts, such as: crayons melt when you leave them on the radiator, or toy soldiers melt when you drop them in the muffin batter before mom puts it in the oven. His brother thought he was weird, but E was only ten years old at the time. What did he expect, Shakespeare? E liked writing things down so much, he decided that when he grew up, he was going to become a professional writer.

E has gone on to write for many award winning TV shows including: The Cosby Show, and Even Stevens. He also co-wrote the Academy Award nominated short film, Cadillac Dreams. Never Slow Dance With A Zombie was his first teen novel.  Boyfriend From Hell is the first in the Falling Angels Saga.  The second novel in the saga, Earth Angel, will be coming out soon.  It seems E still has lots of important, and weird, thoughts to share with readers.
