Series: The Colony Series #1
Author: Regina Morris
Genre: Paranormal Romance/Suspense
**I received an ecopy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
Synopsis:
Vampires exist among us. They can be our neighbor, best friend, our child's teacher ...
They alter their aged appearance based upon the amount of blood they consume. They move to a new area, drink a lot of blood, and appear young. Slowly they limit their intake of blood and age, right in front of our unsuspecting eyes. After decades, they fake their death, move, and do it over and over again.
Most live quiet lives in an effort to blend in.
Some however want power and control.
The Colony is an elite group of vampires sworn to protect the President of the United States from these rogue vampires.
When Raymond Metcalf, vampire coven master of the Colony, teams up with a federal operative of the human female persuasion-who has no idea that vampires even exist-will his mission or his heart be compromised first?
Career military woman, Alex Brennan, is being offered the promotion of a lifetime and with it a romance that she has desperately been seeking. Does she dare accept the position as Director of the Colony, an elite group of deadly creatures of the night and risk a dangerous romance with a man who isn't even human?
Together, can they save the President?
Eternal Service is the first in a new series. The premise alone intrigued me and the book did not disappoint. Eternal Service had the dubious job of doing all the world building for the series and Ms. Morris did an exceptional job. I can't say enough about how she took vampire lore and put her mark on it. The way vampires feed alters their appearance so they can blend into society. And an elite group is used to protect the President...Genius!
I was also captivated by the action and romance. The romance between the central characters, Alex and Raymond, had a slow build up which reflects the time in which Raymond grew up. The action was also slow in developing but very suspenseful. That Alex is Raymond's new director poses a minor problem since they are attracted to one another. And they both must work quickly, along with their team, to stop the latest threat to the President.
I adore all the characters that inhabit this new world. Alex and Raymond were obviously the focal couple for this book and I love them both. Alex, with her strength and intelligence, and Raymond, with his power and Southern charm, are an excellent match.
As for the other characters, Sulie, who is Raymond's sister, Sterling, Raymond's son, Ben, Dixon, even William and Jackie, are all superbly drawn. I want to know what the future will bring for them entire team...but Sulie and Sterling in particular. *hint-hint*
Eternal Service is a splendid introduction to this new series. With a refreshing twist on vampires, well drawn characters and the right balance between romance and suspense, it is a very satisfying read. And I am anxious for the next installment...which I am happy to announce releases in September and is about Sterling! :)

My Review
Y'all know I love me some vampires. Hot, sexy, and very gentlemanly ones? All the better! I also believe I have said that I love it when an author takes vampire lore and makes it their own...puts a new spin on them. I am completely enamored with the premise of this series! A covert arm of the Secret Service comprised of vampires?!? Tasked with protecting the President from threats both mortal and immortal alike? Sign.Me.Up.Eternal Service is the first in a new series. About Regina
Regina Morris is the author of the paranormal romances that make up the Colony series. Her books are light-hearted romances about Vampires that are humorous in nature - not dark, horrific or gory.
She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and two children. She is active in critique meet-ups and local writing groups.
She has lived in many different parts of the world. She graduated from high school in Germany and received her degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She loved the town, married her college sweetheart, and stayed in Austin to have a career and family. After years of working in the software industry she discovered that writing was in her blood and had to take pen to paper!
This sounds like a great read. Seems like you get the special service/elite corps type thrillers mixed with boy has to have girl mixed with VAMPIRES! I haven't read anything like this one.
ReplyDeleteHi Robyn. Please visit my website http://www.reginamorris.com for more info. I loved writing Raymond and Alex's story. Raymond is so noble in his ways, but he falls short on his ideals. Alex is such a strong character and was a joy to flesh out on paper. I did a lot of research as to the Presidential procedures for such things as Air Force One, Secret Service protocols, etc. I had a blast writing the story! I hope you enjoy the book! :-)
