**Sidekick Showcase ~ #18**

Sidekick Showcase (previously known as Sidekick Saturday) is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week's type
• Share a picture (if possible) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment

This week, Jaclyn has chosen Fairytale for the theme.
I have wracked my brain trying to come up with a book that incorporated a fairytale theme ~ you know I always try to bend the rules :) I can come up with several from Austen or Shakespeare, but no fairytale...even though I know I've read books and thought "this is like ____" I just cannot come up with one. So I'm going with a traditional fairytale.

My pick this week is:
Beast
from Beauty and the Beast

I think Beauty and the Beast is my very favorite fairytale ~ probably because of the books! ;) Beast has always been one of my favorite heroes because despite his gruff appearance and manners, I was always able to see his redeeming qualities. (y'all know that's always a requirement for me if my heroes are a bit damaged) I also love, love the theme of falling in love despite appearances. It truly is what's on the inside that matters most, and this fairytale embodies that idea. The way Beast is with his staff and with Belle ~ it just warmed my heart. He is a good person underneath his scary facade. And have you seen the size of his library?!?!?!

So, you've come to stare at the Beast, haven't you?-Beast
Oh, it's no use. She's so beautiful, and I'm...Well, look at me!-Beast
"Well Your Highness, I must say everything is going just swimmingly. I knew you had it in you, ha ha!""[sadly] I let her go.""Yes, yes, splen - You what? How could you do that?""I had to.""Yes, but, but, but but why?""Because I love her."-Cogsworth & Beast

  1. "Have you seen the size of his library?" <- TOO FUNNY!! And so true right. Isn't that why we all fell in love with Belle and the Beast? I thought that was a fantastic edition to our childhood as well with the story-line of falling in love despite outer looks. Very important message to everyone, everywhere and it works so well in this story. The Beast is a damaged character certainly, but he's got this soft core inside him that just needed let go. Love your choice :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

  2. Ha! I picked this one too. I have a bunch of fairytale favorites. I almost chose Shrek because it's such a fun mock up of the best characters. But Beauty and the Beast is just so awesome. So many stories follow this storyline. I hope things are calming down for you and that you're feeling better. Now I feel like watching the movie again!

  5. Beast is a great choice, Brandee. I always could see his redeeming qualitites as well, but he made me so very sad because he never saw them himself. And isn't it ironic that he was putting more importance on exterior beauty than Belle did?

I hope you're having a great weekend, Brandee. *hugs*
