Synopsis
The UNSUB has made contact.

After a rapid string of grisly murders shakes the usually peaceful city of Arlington, Virginia, the sadistic killings of young women lull into a deceptive calm. Agent Sadie Bonds knows the terror isn't over; serial killers don't stop until caught.

And this sadist has targeted the profiler, revealing pieces of her dark past and weaving her secrets into each gruesome crime scene. Is the killer someone from Sadie's past, her present? Or is he part of a fated future she brought on herself? The answer lies withing the riddle of the copycat killings, ones mimicked after the infamous Blood Countess.

As tension brews in the department awaiting the UNSUB's next move, Sadie's more on edge--her deviant cravings for the possible perpetrator have ratcheted out of control. She needs the feel of Colton's ropes binding her, sheltering her from stark reality.

Only Colton Reed has his own twisted secrets that threaten to unravel not only Sadie as they come to light, but the UNSUB's carefully constructed web now entangling both the profiler and her sexy bondage rigger.

Is Sadie too close to this case to be objective, or is the UNSUB closer to her than she ever imagined...

This second installment was every bit as suspenseful as its predecessor. With the UNSUB silent for the moment, with the exception of text messages, new details revealed about Sadie and Colton, questionable behavior from characters, and an addition to the cast, the question of the identity of the UNSUB is every bit as muddled - at least for me - as it was.

I thrilled at learning a little more about Sadie and as these details where revealed I realized I didn't know her as well as I thought. The revelations about Colton were heartbreaking but I so appreciated getting some clarity about this enigma of a man.

Sadie and Colton make great strides in deepening their bond. The alternating POV once again added so much depth to the characters. Getting glimpses into their thinking enabled me to understand where they were coming from - and where they were headed - in relation to each other.

The tension created with the addition of Detective Carson to the task force along with Detective Quinn's odd behavior have me twisted in knots over what is going on and what's coming next. The UNSUB is getting brazen - well more so - in his actions and I'm worried for Sadie and Colton. As for who he is? Well, I have a few theories. We'll see if my theories pan out. I kinda feel like I might be off-base.

The only thing I missed in this installment was the profiling/procedural element. As I reflect, it was there but it wasn't as focal as it was in book one. However, I still couldn't put this down - I was enthralled. Ms. Wolfe continues to lead me down a dark, twisty path. How long do I have to wait for all the answers, Ms. Wolfe?!?

Do you know why both books have the same title? I know it's not a serial...

  2. Erotica isn't my thing but the thriller aspects sounds good-even if there isn't as much in this installment. I am glad you are loving these though :)

  3. Mystery and erotica packed neatly like this sounds great, Brandee, and I know that if you found it fabulous, I will, too ;)

  4. I like alternating pov's for that reason as well, we get to know both of the characters better and understand the way they act and why. The combination of mystery and erotica sounds interesting! Great review!

  5. Ah. Braine actually convinced me to try the first book, which I read in a couple of hours. Funny thing, I realized that the cover of much scarier than the content, lol :) Glad to hear that the new one is out. I enjoyed the writing - I found it quite clever :) Great review.

  6. I love it when that happens! ;)

I don't know why she did that, but I'll ask and get back to you. <3

  7. I really think this carries the 'erotica' label because it deals in bdsm. But I have to say it's really not so much dealing in that. I mean, it's an element but it's actually kinda minor. The thriller element though...whoa! I love the profiling...very Silence of the Lambs and I like that a lot.

  9. Thanks, Lola. This is really well done, in my opinion. Wolfe is kind of scaring me at how well she does dark and gritty. :)

  10. Right? And what do you think of the erotica label? I know it deals in bdsm but I think the thriller element was a larger aspect. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoy the writing. I'm eager for #3 so I have have all my questions answered. :)

  11. OMG! I am with you, I felt Quinn was a bit odd too. Is he a little crazy, or just protective of Sadie? Or does he have secrets that he's holding back! Argh!
