Synopsis:
Twenty-four-year-old Kylie Reed has always been a rule follower. Organized and cautious to a fault, her dreams for life are often filed away for future use—when she has a house, when she meets her future husband, when she has been at her visual display job at a chic Dallas boutique longer…Kylie always has a reason for living her life in the future, not in the present, and not living her life to the fullest and reaching her dream of becoming a fashion designer.

The only exception to rules, of course, would be running away with Prince Harry—Kylie’s ideal man. A hot, fun ginger boy would be worth breaking all the rules for, of course.  And Kylie is sure Harry just needs the right, centering woman to settle him down.  But living in Dallas and not knowing Prince Harry make this a non-option.

Or does it?

Because when Kylie accidentally falls into the lap of a gorgeous ginger boy—yes, even more gorgeous than the real Prince Harry—all bets are off. Could this stranger be the one to show Kylie how to take a chance, to face her fears, and live in the present?  And could this stranger be the Prince Harry she has been waiting for? Kylie’s life takes some unexpected twists and turns thanks to this chance encounter, and she knows her life will never be the same because of it…

Waiting for Prince Harry is a really sweet read. It was very low on angst and I enjoyed watching Kylie and Harrison as they worked at building a relationship and learned a few things about themselves.

Kylie Reed is an artistic, quirky young woman who has many plans for the future. However, her avoidance of confrontation at all costs keeps her from doing things now in order to achieve that future. It is avoiding confrontation that finds her in the hotel bar during her brother's wedding reception after taking a quiz on the odds of meeting a special someone in a bar...which were about as likely as her meeting Prince Harry. ;)

Harrison Flynn has learned to be leery of women and the future. He prefers living in the now. He really wants to find someone who will see him for who he truly is. When Kylie lands in his lap, everything changes...for them both. In getting to know one another, they each make the other realize they're holding themselves back from the 'endless possibilities' before them.

As I said, Waiting for Prince Harry is really sweet. The story is set in Dallas, which heightened my enjoyment since my husband is from Dallas and we lived there when we were first married. I'm very familiar with the area and Ms. Ellis' description of places like the Dallas Arboretum, the steamy summer days, and even the people, added to the fun. I also liked Ms. Ellis' use of magazine-style relationship quizzes at the start to each chapter. It enhanced Kylie's appeal and awkwardness. Harrison is a dreamboat. Seriously, he was such a compassionate gentleman AND he's hot. I could completely understand his appeal.

As for Kylie and Harrison's relationship, it progressed swiftly and with few trials. I did enjoy the fact that they both had strong feelings for the other, and that they each seemed to bring out more confidence in each other. They each had insecurities and that made them more real. However, since they didn't face many tests in their relationship, I felt the story didn't have as much depth as it could have. Also, because of the lack of struggles, I felt the character growth was a bit stunted.

Waiting for Prince Harry was light, fun and sweet. While I would have wished for a little more character growth, it was a pleasant read.

Aven Ellis has been writing fiction since she was sixteen. She studied communications at a large Midwestern university, and after graduation, Aven worked as a reporter for a community newspaper, followed by a stint at a public relations agency.

But writing about city council meetings and restaurant franchises was not as much fun as writing for young women trying to figure out their careers and potential boyfriends. So Aven got herself a job in television that allowed her to write at night. Connectivity is Aven’s debut novel; Waiting For Prince Harry and Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista (New Adult romantic comedy) will be published next year.

Aven lives in Dallas with her family. When she is not writing, Aven enjoys shopping, cooking, connecting with friends on social media, and watching any show that features Gordon Ramsay.

  8. I really loved this one. :) Aven does a great job of writing those sweet, low angst books and I have to say- those are just what I need from time to time! I do agree, I could have used a bit more character development myself, but still enjoyed this one. I did really like Harrison, even though he did drive me a bit crazy at times. Great review Brandee- I'm glad you enjoyed this!

  9. I was a little worried this was going to be with the actual Prince as one of the characters, and therefore I wasn't all that interested in it. Now, though, I think it might be exactly my kind of story anyway :)
    Thanks for sharing Brandee!
I hope you're doing well, that you don't have too much snow still, and that you'll have a fun Easter weekend with the family. I can't wait to get on the plane on Saturday and go to NYC. We are going to have a lot of fun, I'm sure. *BIG HUGS*
