Once again, my pal, Robyn, over @robgirlbooks, has us creating a soundtrack for our lives. This challenge is all about sharing the music you listen to when you need motivation, or to celebrate, or when you're happy or sad, or when you're cleaning, etc. Sounds fun, yeah? Here's how it works... Robyn gives us a theme every month and we post songs that fulfill that theme as it applies to us. Then at the end of the year, we'll have a playlist!
The playlist for 2014 can be found here (youtube link) if you're interested. I enjoyed sharing my family's musical tastes with y'all and I enjoyed being introduced to some new music. I'm looking forward to doing it again for 2015!
This month's theme is... go big or go home - big production. So I asked my family which song they listen to when they think of big music... I hope our choices!

My Picks
I'm showing my age. ;) I was never really an MJ fan but everyone liked Thriller!

James' Pick
It must be said that my hubs is a dork - and this is from one of his favorite movies from when he was a teenager. :)
Sky's Pick
Berk's Pick
Jax's Pick
Thriller is awesome. So is Les Mis. I dragged my husband to see Into the Woods at Christmas (b/c I've loved it since I was a teenager, and was freaking over the moon when I found out Disney was making a movie out of it), and was surprised (b/c he comes from a very musical family) to discover that he'd never seen Phantom of the Opera. So the next day I made him it watch it too. After that, I discovered he'd never seen Les Mis, so the next night . . . *snickers* Why, YES, you do see a pattern emerging . . . ;)
ReplyDeleteALSO--you have a very diverse family, Brandee. Well done!
WOW, everybody's choices are great, Brandee! I was never a big Michael Jackson fan either, but Thriller is something else.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a great weekend! Only 87 more days, and we'll be in Dallas. I wish it was sooner, but I know time will fly. I'm so busy these days, I have trouble keeping up with everything. I have a paper due for Monday, and I haven't started on it yet *sighs* I don't know why I do this to myself! And still, here I am, commenting away instead of getting into the groove of my paper on the reform movement in language teaching.
*BIG HUGS*
This is such a fun meme! My fav is the Les Mis one, I just adore all the music from that. And of course Thriller just makes me want to do a dorky zombie dance!
ReplyDeleteI was a MJ fan, so Thriller is a given for me. I admit that I have never heard the songs from Les Mis though. I do love the Bang Bang one too! How fun that your whole family participates in this :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone liked Thriller I think! Great selection of songs!!

I missed this post. Must have been because it was Valentine's Day and I was so busy, haha. I was a huge fan of Michael Jackson. I even wrote him a letter when I was in third grade. I had to look up this Spinal Tap business. Never heard of it. Sky's pick with the marching band, I want to see something like that in person one day. I'm adding it to the list. Amazing! Berk's pick was crazy! I heard that song before, but the video. Girl power. And Jax's Les Mis, I couldn't even last ten minutes watching that movie. Too much. I took Shan to the show years ago in Seattle and I can't remember almost any of it. That's not like me. Great picks, Brandee!! I hope you have a fantastic week!
ReplyDeleteLOL My hubs took me to see a performance of Phantom...afterwards, he leaned over and said "I don't get why you women love this so much." *ha* My family is very musical and my kids are definitely diverse in their musical tastes. It makes this mom smile to see that. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who wasn't a big of MJ...but yeah, Thriller was something else. ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, Lexxie! It's only 78 days to RT now!! Look how fast the time is flying! It'll be here in no time and it's going to be awesome! Have a lovely day! **BIG HUGS**
Glad you enjoyed our choices! We're all quite fond on Les Mis music. And yeah, you can't think of Thriller without getting it stuck in your head and wanting to dance!
ReplyDeleteLOL I *make* my family participate. :) But they really have fun with it. And I enjoy seeing what they pick, so I'm glad you do as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was hard not to like Thriller. I'm glad you like our picks!
ReplyDeleteYes, V-Day...that must be it! ;) You made me feel old with your comment about writing MJ a letter in 3rd grade. :) Then I remembered Thriller came out when I was in 7th and felt better. *haha* Spinal Tap...yeah, James' love of silly/stupid movies proves was a typical boy he was back in the day. ;) I bought Spinal Tap for him and he made me watch it with him one night...I fell asleep. *ha* But it's along the same lines of Monty Python which I do like so maybe one day I'll watch it again. OH, Sky's pick is Drum Corps...there's a difference. And my family will correct you so fast it'll make your head spin. ;) Drum Corps is brass and drums only. I'd love to take you to a Drum Corps show. Washington has a corps - Seattle Cascades - so you could probably catch a show up there. One of our favorite drum corps did Les Mis year before last and it was amazing. So we all like the music. I'll send you a link to the show if I can find one. Berk definitely has her own style when it comes to music and I love her pick. Happy Monday, Robyn!!
