Synopsis:
***STAND ALONE NOVEL. NO CLIFFHANGER. HEA***
(Content Warning: due to graphic sex scenes, strong language, suggestive themes, mature humor, and just about everything your besties ever told you not to do–including getting vajazzled, this novel is for adults only.)
In the world of the fabulous rich, some will pay any price to maintain social status. What if it costs them the one thing they’ve always yearned for? Love.
At thirty-three, Warner Truman is one of the richest men on the planet, a spa mogul who buys and sells resorts at will. He holds powerful executives' careers in his well-groomed hands. Nothing is beyond Warner's reach...until he meets her.
Stunning, tantalizing and perverse, Taddy Brill captivates Warner's carnal desire like no woman he's ever met. A self-made millionaire, Taddy is tougher than steel, more brilliant than diamonds and, at twenty-seven, she's never depended on a man for anything...until she meets him.

The more Taddy plays with Warner's affections, driving him to erotic heights, the more she is confronted by a dark past. Before she can love him, Taddy must meet her worst fears head-on or risk losing it all, including herself.
THE MANHATTANITES is an extended modern erotic romance series of full length juicy melodramas multilayered on love, friendship, scandal, and drama to the hilt. If you grew up reading Jackie Collins and Judith Krantz you will devour this series. Sex & The City fans who watch TV shows like Girls (HBO), Mistresses (ABC/BBC Drama), and The Bold & the Beautiful (CBS) love The Manhattanites series. Avery's characters are over the top. They have raunchy sex, speak their minds and always get what they want.

My Review

Wow! I went in to reading Unscrupulous for some fun. And I wasn't disappointed! Ms. Aster created some fabulous characters and used the backdrop of the city that never sleeps. I had a hard time putting this one down!

Unscrupulous, although the second in the series, reads as a standalone. It centers on Taddy Brill, a self-made millionaire and founder of Brill, Inc., and Warner Truman, self-made billionaire and founder of Truman Enterprises. These two characters have been avoiding the opposite sex for quite awhile. They each have their own very valid reasons but a chance encounter leaves them longing for one another. A misunderstanding causes Taddy to want to keep her distance but fate seems to intervene. And when they meet again, Warner doesn't plan on letting Taddy get away.

What I loved most about Unscrupulous is the strong, independent women, especially Taddy, that populate this story. That Taddy built her empire on her own is astonishing and inspiring. She's a cutthroat and savvy businesswoman and I admired that quite a lot. And then, there's Warner with his quiet strength. Oh, Big Daddy! He's intelligent and determined - and apparently capable of giving multiple mind-blowing orgasms! :)

Other members of the cast - Lex Easton, Vive Farnworth, Blake Morgan, even Kiki all added such vibrancy to the story. I'm very much looking forward to reading more about all these characters. Lex and Vive, Taddy's best friends, are also brilliant and successful businesswomen. There are no shrinking violets in this group!

Unscrupulous isn't without its poignant moments. We get to see the serious and tender sides of Taddy and Warner. I liked this as it added depth to their characters and their relationship. I also liked that Ms. Aster provided back story throught flashbacks. I appreciated this knowledge of all the characters.

The most fun reading, though, was the intimate moments between Taddy and Warner. These two sizzled together and getting a glimpse of their internal dialog was usually giggle-inducing. I mean, Taddy's nickname for Warner is 'Big Daddy', for goodness sake! :) And how many of you have heard of vajazzling?!?

There is a bit of a Sex and the City feel here but it totally worked for me. There isn't a cliffhanger but I hope to get more from this couple as the series continues. I will be reading Undressed as soon as I can, where I'll get a deeper look at Lex.

Thanks, Avery, for giving me a good time! ;)

  2. I read the first 1/3 of this, but had a hard time. I think it was a bit too raunchy for me, but I'm glad you enjoyed it, Brandee!

    1. I'm sorry you had a hard time with it, Andrea. To me, it's like reading Sex and the City - which I haven't read but did watch - girlfriend weekends twice a year, we watched the whole series on DVD over a couple of years - so it reminded me of good times, I guess. LOL I think it was just what I needed after all the angst I've been reading. :)
