Synopsis:

According to Hayley love is a subject of ridicule, a myth created by hopeless romantics.

When Hayley makes a resolution to declare her loose lifestyle era R.I.P, it’s all good in theory…

That is until she meets Daniel Stark, a well-respected, mid-thirties business man who is known for his short temper, lack of steady relationships as well as his strict preserve of his private life.

Opinionated, sharp tongued Hayley accidently steps into his office leaving Daniel resolved to put Hayley in her place and have her in his bed.

Both Hayley and Daniel can’t avoid the immediate instigation of the attraction between them.

In a unanimously agreed upon verdict by Hayley and her two best friends, Ian the gay self-absorb, aspiring model and Natasha the witty, borderline neurotic soul mate, Daniel Stark is to be Hayley’s pure physical attraction, emotions aside era closure.

Will it indeed be a closure, or a beginning to something neither Hayley nor Daniel ever bargained for…

Layers is reminiscent of a few well-known novels. BUT it's no less enjoyable for its familiarity.

Hayley Grace is a young woman who's arty, has awesome friends, and is quite the snark. She's also looking for a job...only a job. She definitely is not looking for romance despite her reluctance to continue with her non-emotional entanglements...or hookups. :) Hayley doesn't believe in love. She believes that sex doesn't require emotions. And this philosophy has worked well for her...until she meets Daniel Stark.

Daniel Stark is one HOT alpha male. He's founder and CEO of Stark Software and a self-made millionaire. He's demanding, private, rather snarky himself...and he doesn't do relationships. This arrangement has worked for him...until Hayley appears in his private kitchen.

Layers is the first novel in a trilogy, so it's laying the foundation for the story. I really enjoyed both Hayley and Daniel, although I kept waiting for more backstory on Hayley. She's a bright, independent girl. But I felt there had to be a reason for her disbelief in love. Daniel...goodness, what a hunky guy. Hayley referred to him as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde quite often, and the description was fitting, as he had tender moments alternating with icy moments. These two, with the sexy and snarky banter, were a lot of fun to watch as their relationship progressed and their feelings grew.

I also enjoyed Tasha and Ian, Hayley's best friends. I do hope they are fleshed out even more in the next books. They're good friends to Hayley and very interesting characters in their own right.

The majority of the novel follows Hayley and Daniel as they get closer. They both admit to the progression of their relationship is fast - and it is - but it worked. The sexy scenes had a lot of build up, but were fade to black climaxes. The tension, when it arrived, was a tad predictable but definitely served its purpose. I'm hooked and want to see what happens next for Hayley and Daniel.

Ms. Ehrlich has written an entertaining, if familiar, novel. I enjoyed both her writing and the story. And I'm anxious for Inner Core.

By teen age, Sigal already lived in three different continents where she had the luck to experience and visit varied places, meet unique people, which only helped fuel her overly developed imagination. Currently, Sigal calls Estonia home where she lives with her husband and three kids.

Not exactly sure where they will end up next…

When she is not hiding in her office, writing, she enjoys music, reading and taking care of her little clan.

With a great believe in "don’t wait for things to happen - make them happen," she enjoys anything exciting life has to offer.

  4. I'm intrigued. the character development sounds a bit lacking as far as Hayley goes, but Daniel sounds like an alpha I could enjoy reading about. I'll have to keep an eye on this trilogy as it goes.

    1. Hayley's development did seem a bit lacking, Berls - but you know, it could be because there was a familiarity with the story as a whole and I kept waiting for that one element to pop up. Daniel is...whoa! Yeah. ;)

    1. Oh, I think you would, Lexxie. And like I said to Berls, maybe it was just the familiarity that made me continue thinking the other shoe was go? I really did enjoy it!

  8. I love snark! Daniel does sound sexy. I think guys in romance books have an icy side as a kind of shield. They usually thaw out, which is nice to see happen, lol. Added this one to my TBR! :D
