Synopsis
Peaches Monroe works at a bookstore in small town Washington. She's also a plus-size lingerie model, and the former girlfriend of Dalton Deangelo. He's the sexy, smoldering actor who plays TV's hottest vampire.
Now Dalton is back in town, hiding out from his past and a ton of bad publicity. He can't keep his hands off Peaches, even though she's dating someone else. Peaches knows that being friendly with Dalton always ends up in complete disaster, but he does have an interesting proposal for her--a wedding proposal. He says a fake wedding will save his career, and he needs her.
As much as she'd love to run into the arms of the incredibly hot, deliciously sexy actor, she's also afraid. He keeps hinting that he loves her, but he won't say the words.
Even if he did profess his love, can you ever really trust an actor?
Starfire was everything I've come to expect from Mimi Strong. And it was the perfect ending for Peaches.
In Starfire, we find Peaches back home in Beaverdale, working at Peachtree Books. She knows Dalton will be in town soon - dealing with publicity nightmare she caused by accidentally spilling a secret of his. Naturally, she begins dating Adrian Storm, her high school crush. (*once you meet Peaches, you'll understand the 'naturally')
When Dalton arrives, Peaches learns the lesson that you should, in fact, read every word in any contract you sign - particularly an NDA with a famous actor. In order to control the maelstrom caused by Peaches' loose lips, Dalton proposes to Peaches. But his reasons aren't solely dependent on saving his career...
"I want to have a wedding for publicity, and I want to get married for love. Preferably to the same girl." eARC, Loc 1325
I think what I most enjoyed about Starfire was the emotional growth of Peaches. We've seen her run from Dalton so many times in an effort to avoid emotional intimacy. She has trust issues and with Dalton, those issues have been somewhat warranted. Dalton seems so sincere, but then he is an actor. Plus, if she wants Dalton to open up and be honest, she has to reciprocate. As Dalton attempts to prove that he wants this marriage for real, for love, Peaches experiences several epiphanies. And they helped her grow.
Dalton did some growing himself. He did open up and share things with Peaches. He showed vulnerability. He proved his ability to admit when he's wrong and he apologized.
In Starfire, we have a commitment-phobic heroine trying to deal with a hero who isn't good with words...unless they're written for him. :) There are lots of funny times, many steamy moments, and many moments of tenderness. Adrian, bless his heart, finally go the nerve to date Peaches, and I adored their scenes together. I felt he gave Peaches more than just the distraction she was looking for. He helped in her emotional growth.
I was thrilled with Peaches' ending. Starfire was just as entertaining, well-paced, and exciting as the two previous books in the trilogy. Ms. Strong managed to keep me guessing at the outcome. And that outcome, for Peaches and Dalton, was very satisfying.

Yet another series that seems positively yummy, Brandee! Even if the cover model doesn't look exactly plus-sized... I kind of like that the MC is a plus-sized lingerie model :) It brings out the naughty. And Dalton sounds like my kind of male lead - even if he is an actor - and who knows if it's ever possible to trust those LOL.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, my friend. More books added to my TBR - soon I'm going to need a crane!
I hope you're doing well, and that you're not completely snowed in. *BIG HUGS*
